COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill stun Stamford to keep FA Cup dream going at The Lamb

Super Coleshill secured their place in the hat for Monday's FA Cup draw with a fine victory over Stamford AFC at The Lamb today.

Goals from Luke Barlone and Simeon Cobourne gave the Colemen a deserved win over a Stamford side who play two divisions higher in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier.

It was a well-deserved win for Paul Casey's side who defended resolutely throughout while looking threatening in attack.

Rob Evans went close to giving Coleshill the lead on four minutes but his header from a Mykel Beckley corner was tipped over the bar by Stamford's keeper Richard Knight,

Casey's men had appeals for a penalty turned away on nine minutes when the lively Beckley went down under a challenge from Richard Jones.

The visitors responded with a header from Jordan Smith which was gathered well by Paul Hathaway.

Coleshill were deservedly ahead on 25 minutes. Beckley was the provider, showing trickery inside the box before hitting a low cross for Barlone to slot in from close range.

The visitors almost responded instantly with Smith's header tipped onto the post by Paul Hathaway.

But it was the home side who continued to look threatening and they were close to doubling their lead on the half hour as Demetrius Smikle whipped in a teasing cross to the far post but Barlone was unable to hit the target.

The visitors looked to take the initiative early in the second half but were struggling to fashion clear openings.

At the other end, Smikle fired in an effort which was comfortably gathered by Knight, who then kept his side in the tie with a save from point-blank range.

Sub Cobourne created the chance with an excellent run inside the Stamford box before pulling the ball back for Chris Hughes, whose first time shot was well blocked by Knight.

Coleshill keeper Hathaway then came to his side's rescue with an excellent save to deny Ryan Robbins.

The home side always looked a threat in attack though and Cobourne produced a brilliant moment which nearly brought a goal, with a clever flick which was inches wide of Knight's right-hand post.

Time was running out for the visitors but they had a sniff of an opening as Smith headed wide from a corner while Hathaway was again called into action to retain the clean sheet.

Despite their possession, Stamford were unable to find the breakthrough and Coleshill killed the contest off in stoppage time with Cobourne rounding Knight before slotting home from a tight angle.
