Casey's delight as Coleshill Town bounce back in real style
Writes the Coleshill Herald

PAUL Casey believes that his Coleshill Town team are starting to bond as a unit after they swept aside a Hednesford Town side from three leagues higher in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday evening.

Coleshill went into the game on the back of a 9-0 thumping in the FA Cup against an AFC Fylde side from the same division as the Pitmen.

But Casey's men once again proved to be a match for anyone on their day as they produced the perfect response to their FA Cup heartache.

Casey said: "Playing at home on Tuesday night made a massive difference.

"Going to Blackpool on a round-trip in one day and getting smashed 9-0 is tough but this was a great response. I thought we thoroughly deserved it.

"We are still bonding as a team.

"Ironically on Saturday, when all the lads had a party on the coach on the way back, I thought that helped as we looked like a team against Hednesford.

"Saturday we looked a bit in awe whereas against Hednesford, apart from a couple of times against the back four, they didn't really hurt us.

"It was a good performance from the group and I'm really pleased."

Casey's side responded from going 1-0 down inside the opening three minutes against the Pitmen to hold a 3-2 lead at the break, something which the manager felt was down to his big-game players stepping up to the plate.

"We have played Stafford Rangers earlier this year and conceded after a minute and we've conceded early doors in quite a few games," he said.

"I think the difference now is that we are starting to realise that if you play forward, which I like us to do, then you will score goals.

"We have scored five but we could have maybe scored eight or nine, as we have hit the bar and had a couple of great chances where the keeper has made some good saves and we have done really well.

"The big players have stepped it up. Luke Barlone and Dean Rathbone played like I think they can.

"Danico Johnson did well and we also defended really well against a very good forward line."

Coleshill made progression thanks to a four-goal haul from Johnson, with the manager delighted that the striker is showing his potential.

He said: "To be fair to Danico he has come in and he is an unknown quantity.

"At times, he doesn't look like a footballer but he has real magic in his feet," added Casey. "Last week he absolutely murdered Bolehall Swifts on his own. It was embarrassing.

"Against Hednesford we were on 3G and it is his pitch and he has torn into their back four. If he can get that consistency and he could get himself fit then he could play higher."

Casey's side travel to Lye Town on Saturday, a team that did the double over them last season.

Match Report taken from Hednesford Town website
Hednesford Town were unceremoniously dumped out of the Birmingham Senior Cup by a Coleshill Town side who were worthy winners on the night.

Bernard McNally made seven changes from the side that had been defeated at the weekend, with Kyle Patterson making his first Hednesford start in over two years and Adam Thomas also making a welcome return to the starting line-up.

The Pitmen actually took the lead in the third minute as Paul Ennis fired home from the edge of the box after being picked out by Kennedy Digie.

That lead didn’t last long though as Danico Johnson was teed up just inside the penalty area and he shot low into the bottom corner to bring his side level in the eighth minute.

It was 2-1 to the home side in the 24th minute as Ryan Nash was left with a free header inside the six-yard box. The score-line was almost made worse for the Pitmen less than a minute later, only for Johnson to see his shot come back off the bar.

Although Hednesford equalised through a Tyrone Williams header in the 40th minute, less than sixty seconds later they were 3-2 behind when Johnson scored with an overhead kick following a mix-up at the back.

Eight minutes into the second period Johnson completed his hat-trick and the striker soon made it four for him and five for Coleshill on the hour mark as he tucked home through Lloyd Ransome’s legs, following a free-kick whipped into the box

Hednesford searched for a way back into the game and Ben Bailey was denied by an excellent save from the Coleshill goalkeeper after 64 minutes before Ennis saw another chance come and go ten minutes later.

It almost got worse three minutes from time only for Ransome to make another smart block on the edge of the box.
