SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
It was 3-1 at Lye Town as they eased to victory over Coleshill Town. And yet it was the visitors who struck first when Rickie Cutting netted inside the opening minute. Kalum Evitts levelled the scores by half-time and two goals in five second-half minutes wrapped up the win - Kevin Nickle and Ben Wilkins rounding off fine passing.

Manager Paul Casey's squad was stretched to the limit for the trip to Lye Town. Long term injuries meant Danny Tymon, Danny Douglas, Mykel Beckley and Tom Weale were unavailable but they were joined by Giovanni Dainty, Demetrius Smikel (injured) Rob Evans, Leon Weller, Brendan Murphy (unavailable) and finally Luke Barlone (suspension), all first team regulars! Coleshill's midfield was subsequently light weight with just Craig Milligan able to compete with a physical home side. Up front Danico Johnson was full of confidence after his four goal haul mid-week but in that game he fed off the big man, in this game he had to lead the line and came up wanting! The makeshift defence handled the pressure quite well for 70 minutes but were finally overrun in the last twenty!

Coleshill made the best possible start and had the ball in the net in less than a minute! A Dean Rathbone through ball found Ricky Cutting in the box who turned and shot and although the home defence blocked the ball, it was hit with enough power to trickle over the line! Lye slowly worked their way back into the game and had the upper hand. Pearlman headed wide, Spray shot straight at Hathaway in the Town goal. In reply Cutting and Johnson combined to force a corner and Rathbone had a free kick saved at the foot of the post by Bedford. But the home side equalised just before the half hour mark. Overfield was under no pressure and picked out the run of Evitts who headed home unchallenged. Rathbone sent Johnson down the left edge of the box, the striker still had lots to do but he shrugged of his marker and shot powerfully but unfortunately the wrong side of the post! Craig Milligan sent a free kick just inches past the post from 20 yards then a James Spray cross just needed a tap in but there was no-one there for the final touch!

Coleshill started the second half well but were up against a very determined back line. Johnson set up Reece Leek but his goalbound effort was blocked. Overfield sent a free kick just wide as Lye started to get on top again and they had the ball in the net as they broke from a Coleshill corner but when Nickle volleyed home he was adjudged off-side. The home keeper only just got to a Milligan through ball before Johnson before Lye took the lead with a sweeping move on 72 minutes. Flowers broke quickly, fed Evitts who crossed for Nickle to volley home. Spray crossed for Nickle who headed wide from a great position before the home team increased their lead on 75 minutes with another fine passing move. A Spray through ball fed Evitts who crossed for the onrushing Wilkins who thumped the ball home. Simeon Cobourne controlled a long ball by Hathaway but then shot straight at the keeper and Nickle shot narrowly wide.
