SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE

REPORT
After twelve straight games on the immaculate Pack Meadow 3G surface, how would Coleshill cope with a quagmire of a pitch at Dunkirk? Well, quite well really! They lumped it when they had to, they played some nice neat football when they could, won their individual battles and then gave the home team a lesson in finishing!
Dunkirk, under new management, were out to impress the new boss and with a 3-0 mid-week win under their belt, confidence was as good as it could get! They certainly had pace and caused the Town defence a few problems in the opening minutes but when Craig Milligan scored on 18 minutes Coleshill were in complete control. Rob Evans played a ball into the box and Milligan shot across keeper Want with his right foot, yes his right foot, and into the net off the foot of the far post. Four minutes later it was 2-0 as a delightful ball from Demitrius Smikle, who had a fine game in his last appearance before going to the USA to coach soccer, was volleyed home at the far post by Mykel Beckley. Town keeper Paul Hathaway saved from Lucas and Sibenge made a fine run and cross but there no-one available to finish as the home side struggled to get back into the game. Beckley got his second and Coleshill's third on 35 minutes when he got on the end of a Tom Weale through ball and toe poked the ball past the advancing keeper. Half time 3-0.
Even up the slope Coleshill had the better chances. A Shane Benjamin goalbound shot was blocked and then Want parried another Benjamin effort for a corner before Beckley completed his hat-trick on 55 minutes. A Weale through ball found Beckley wide right of the penalty box and his dangerous cross was heading for Benjamin at the far post but took a deflection and ended up in the net. Lucas shot narrowly wide, Danny Douglas headed over the bar then Benjamin got his customary goal on 69 minutes as he received a pass from Josh Quaynor in the box and his turn and powerful shot was too much for Want. On 75 minutes Smikle took on the defence and his a rasping left foot shot across the keeper and into the far corner of the net. Dunkirk then had a couple of chances to trouble the score board but their finishing was poor to say the least. Dyson, Fletcher and Bange all sliced their efforts wide from great positions and then Lucas hit the foot of the post. Town substitute Simeon Cobourne had had a couple of chances and was badly in need of a confidence building score, and that came with just a couple of minutes remaining. Home keeper Jake Want took a goal kick but his punt was sent straight back with a volley from Guy Clarke that sent Cobourne clear on goal and he rounded the keeper and rolled into the net.
Playing Dunkirk has done wonders for Coleshill's goal difference and the three points has lifted them to 8th in the table but the next two away games will be far tougher than this with AFC Wulfs to come on Tuesday and Walsall Wood in the League Cup Tuesday week!
