SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill Town romped to a 6-0 win at home to Long Eaton United with Mykel Beckley scoring a goal in each half.

Coleshill lost at Long Eaton 4-3 in a ding-dong battle back in September! Two strong, committed and even sides played that day but on this occasion Town were far to strong for the visitors and ran out worthy winners. Coleshill's sixth was their 87th league goal of the season, only bettered by Hereford, but in contrast they have conceded 65, the worst record in the top half of the table, so it is obvious where manager Paul Casey needs to concentrate as he starts to look ahead to next season.
The game started very even as United enjoyed the 3G surface as many sides have this year, but they looked toothless up front and Coleshill gave them a lesson in finding the back of the net. It took until the 24th minute before Coleshill took the lead when Tom Weale, in an unfamiliar right back role, broke forward from his own box and found Simeon Cobourne on the edge of the opposition box. He fed Mykel Beckley who strode into the penalty area and hit a powerful shot low to the keepers left and into the net. Giovanni Dainty volleyed over the bar and a Craig Milligan header was cleared off the line before Cobourne was bundled over in the box only for Shane Benjamin to cannon the ball off the post from the resulting penalty. Cobourne went through two challenges that would have been penalties had he gone down but he stayed on his feet and found Benjamin who saw his great shot equalled by a great save from Long Eaton keeper Scott Low, then Low tipped a Sam Adkins shot over the bar. United's only real effort of the half came in the last minute when O'Conner tried to bend the ball into the net but Town keeper Paul Hathaway was up to the challenge with a fine save.
Coleshill should have been more than just one goal up at half time but they certainly made up for it in the second half. United started well again, O'Conner almost forced his way through the home defence but fed Rickford who's goal bound effort was blocked. Simeon Cobourne also found himself free on a one on one only to see Low save with his feet but the stopper was at fault seconds later when he spilt a Shane Benjamin effort and Gio Dainty was on hand to knock into an empty net on 50 minutes. Town should have had another penalty as the impressive Beckley was up ended after another fine run. Sam Adkins cross into the box was volleyed by Benjamin but Low parried for a corner. Beckley picked up the ball on the half way line on 63 minutes and ran to the bye line and picked out Luke Barlone, who had just joined the field of play, who flicked the ball over the keeper with virtually his first touch of the ball. Rickford had a great chance to reduce the arrears but his near post effort was excellently blocked by Rob Evans. Barlone had an effort saved and Adkins hit the post before the goal of the game when substitute Danico Johnson hit an unstoppable effort from just outside the box with his first kick which Low could only watch as it hit the net. The third substitute Dean Rathbone also got on the score sheet as he bent the ball round Low and into the net on 76 minutes. It all got too much for Long Eaton as Sibson brought down Beckley and was shown a Red card and Josh Quaynor hit the bar from the resulting free kick then Beckley completed the scoring in time added on as he volleyed home a Johnson cross.
Luke Edwards played his 200th game for Coleshill and will have not had many quieter afternoons as he hasn't even been mentioned in the above report, but he was as solid as ever!
