SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill Town climbed clear of the bottom spot with a four goal win at home over Bilston CC, sealing the points to leap frog their College visitors. A well worked move involving Jamie Shipway created the chance for Tony Gormley to put Town on top from 25 yards out in the fifth minute. Shipway forced an error from the Bilston centre back to double the advantage via an own goal just five minutes later but it was not until the second half that Coleshill netted number three. With Bilston down to ten men Shipway headed down for Ben Usher to stretch the lead on the hour. Goal of the day came from Anthony Mathews who turned to fire into the top corner with ten minutes remaining.

Usher Legend Lives
A familiar name is back in the Combination goalscoring charts after two decades. When 21 year old midfield man Ben Usher scored much rebuilt Coleshill Town's third goal in their 4-0 win over Bilston Community College at Pack Meadow, he was following in the footsteps of his father Ray - a renowned goalscoring midfield schemer with Atherstone and Highgate United in the mid 70's. Ben already has four goals to his credit and there is another Usher waiting in the wings at Coleshill - Ben's brother Nick, just 17. Ray was a proud spectator at Bilston, in which the other goals were scored by Tony Gormley, Jamie Shipway and Tony Mathews. Coleshill boss Paul Johnson, a lifelong friend of dad Ray, said that Nick was already on the verge of the first team, and the club's youth team policy was paying big dividends. Other players like right midfielder Andy Galbraith had already broken through and more would follow, he said. Johnson, who took over in the autumn when the side were entrenched at the bottom of the table after losing their first nine games, has also recruited several experienced players who played for him at his previous club, Chelmsley Town, in a bid to pull clear of the relegation zone. Brothers Pete and Marcus Slowey have returned, while Fabian Sandiford has been recruited from Sunday soccer. "We won't get out of the bottom half of the table because of the poor start," conceded Johnson, "But we can aim for mid-table now we've hauled clear of the bottom two."
A great win for Coleshill, only their 5th of the season, but unfortunately Bilston Community College later withdrew from the league and all results, points and goalscorers were deducted from the final totals. Coleshill only played Bilston once
