SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Some clinical finishing from Lenny Taylor rescued Highgate United in their 2-2 local derby draw with Coleshill Town. Taylor had given United the lead, turning in Jamie Shipway's cross, but Mark Charnley put the visitors level and then converted a penalty to put Town in front. Taylor salvage strike came in the 59th minute.

SOLIHULL NEWS WROTE
Taylor Made As Gate Grab A Lucky Draw

Highgate could count themselves fortunate to earn a point from a local derby encounter that saw Coleshill on top throughout. But for some poor finishing, the visitors could have won by a convincing margin. Gate’s Lenny Taylor taught Coleshill a lesson in finishing with two clinical strikes and a strong finish almost stole victory for the Shirley side. Both teams had early chances before Shipway slipped a neat ball through a square defence for Taylor to put Highgate ahead in the 17th minute. Coleshill found the back of the net on the half hour but only after Smith was adjudged to have fouled Gary Parkes. Coleshill were now in the driving seat and equalised five minutes before the break when Wiseman’s drive took a deflection into the path of Mark Charnley who made no mistake from three yards out. Within four minutes of the start of the second half a Mark Charnley penalty put Coleshill ahead and they could have extended the lead but for some brave goalkeeping from Parkes. Against the run of play, Gate drew level on the hour when Taylor fired Kitching’s cross wide of Naylor (must be Glover). Parkes came to Gate’s rescue with saves to deny Smith, Whitmore and Charnley. At the other end, Glover dived to turn Martin’s volley round the post and from the corner Kitching went close with a header that sailed inches wide.

Gate Never Get Going

Highgate never got their game going in this local derby but taught the visitors a lesson in finishing with Lenny Taylor scoring with both chances that came their way. Both sides started brightly with Wiseman and Cairns hooking efforts over Gate’s crossbar and Shipway and Kitching firing wide of the visitors’ goal. Coleshill looked to be getting on top when the home side snatched a 17th minute lead when Shipway set up Taylor to beat Glover with a low shot. Coleshill upped the pressure and after Charnley had twice gone close he made no mistake five minutes before the break as he shot the visitors level. Four minutes after the restart Charnley was again on target to put his side ahead from the penalty spot. This was the signal for the start of a busy period for Parkes who saved well from Smith and Charnley as Coleshill looked to stretch their advantage. But Taylor again equalised after 59 minutes from Kitching’s cross and Glover had to produce a fine save to deny Lee Martin as Gate finished strongly.
