SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Highgate United's Spencer Eden was sent for an early bath but his side went on to win, 3-2 victors at Coleshill Town. Highgate led through a Wayne Fisher own goal and a Karlton Hemmings strike before the home side forced their way back through Loz Cairns and Dave Carmichael. Gary Roberts scored ten minutes into the second half to give resurgent Highgate the win.

Victory For Gate

Highgate's vastly improved form continued with a hard earned but richly deserved win from this full blooded and at times controversial encounter. Having seen a tow goal lead pulled back by Town before the break, Highgate looked to have thrown away any hopes of victory following the 47th minute sending off of debut maker Spencer Eden, but a magnificent team display and sheer battling qualities reaped them three points courtesy of captain Gary Robert's 54th minute strike. After just 30 seconds Coleshill defender Wayne Fisher turned Richard Meadows cross into his own net to give the visitors a dream start. In the 22nd minute Highgate pressure was rewarded with a second goal. Douglas released Lee Egerton down the left touchline and a first time cross was neatly tucked away by Hemmings. Just when Highgate looked comfortably in control, Town struck back with two goals in the space of four minutes. Cairns got the second with a close range header. Gate looked the better side and reclaimed the lead in the 54th minute, Mark Averill's cross was hooked against the crossbar by the impressive Hemmings and Gary Roberts forced his way through to smash the loose ball past Prince.

Gate Survive Sending Off

Highgate survived an action packed visit to Coleshill Town to record their first league win of the season. They were ahead after only 30 seconds through an own goal by Wayne Fisher who turned a Richard Meadows cross past his own keeper. Coleshill then dictated the early play as they looked for an equaliser but they were stunned when Gate snatched a second with Karlton Hemmings flicking in Lee Egerton's centre. However, the home side hit back with a quick one-two with Carmichael cutting the deficit with a fine volley and then setting up an equaliser for Cairns a minute before the interval. Gate's problems continued immediately after the re-start with Eden being sent off for a second bookable offence but they still looked the better side and Gary Roberts pounced to fire home a 54th minute winner after a Hemmings effort had rebounded off the crossbar.
