Knowle are hoping to pull off a major giant killing feat after becoming the last Endsleigh Midland Combination side in this year's Midland Triangular Cup. Stan Tims' men beat fellow Premier Division outfit Coleshill Town 1-0 at home in the competition thanks to a goal from evergreen striker John Mitchell. And Tims side will face Bank's Brewery League champions Pelsall Villa in the Quarter Finals at Walsall Road next week. The competition, this year known as the Polymac Cup, was designed as a three-way competition between the Interlink Express Alliance, the Combination and the Banks League. But it became regarded as something of a chore by many of the top sides in its inaugural season, with several top clubs fielding under-strength sides just to fulfill their fixtures.

Mitchell Goal Settles Clash

Knowle progressed to the quarter final of the Triangular Polymac Cup at the expense of their Endsleigh Midland Combination rivals. Town provided tough opposition and were by far the better side in the initial exchanges. Good saves by Chapman and sterling defensive work by skipper Brian McGarry kept the scoreline blank. Easton Shaw, playing only his second competitive game after being out for 18 months with a broken ankle, gradually imposed control of the midfield area and Knowle pushed forward creating chances for John Mitchell and James Kernick. Half time saw both sides content with a deadlock situation however, it was Knowle that responded better in the second period. John Mitchell should have given them the lead on 65 minutes firing over from four yards and Paul Busst should have done better with a point blank header that keeper Cook pushed round the post. Knowle finally broke the deadlock on 74 minutes. Andy Horne's through ball left Mitchell in the clear and his trusty left foot did the rest.

*Steve Chapman ex Coleshill GK.
