West Brom established an early lead in the first half which saw both sides presented with plenty of opportunities to score. A short clearance away from goal by Chapman went straight to West Bromwich giving an excellent goal opportunity seized by Oscar. A good play down the field by Coleshill resulted in a cross by Smith headed just wide by Amory. Both sides had made several shots on goal but the half time score line stands at 0-1

Two second half goals sealed West Brom's progress into the second round. Oscar put them ahead in a fairly even first period. But West Brom had much more determination in the second half and were rewarded with goals from Mathews and M. Byrne.
