SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill Town surrendered their unbeaten home record to a well organised Stapenhill side. Two sloppy defensive mistakes were all it took to give the visitors an early Christmas present. Despite the swirling wind and driving rain both sides entertained the small festive crowd with some good football. The first clear chance fell to Teeling who drilled his shot wide of the post when unmarked in the six yard box. Coleshill's defence failed to stop Walker on the left and Lenton opened the scoring from a left wing cross. Before Coleshill could compose themselves, Barnes made it 2-0 as the home sides defence all tried to play Santa Claus. David Coleman reduced the deficit in the 35th minute after good work from Cockerill and Burroughs. In the second half unrelenting Coleshill pressure could not produce the deserved equaliser. Bolton in the visitors goal was outstanding, producing four match winning saves - the best of which came from substitute Jennings. In failing light the Scrooge-like Stapenhill defence just about held out for the points.
