COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill deserved this victory in their first round battle in the Walsall Senior Cup. Even so their opponents, who play in the Sportscene International Staffs Senior League and were making their first visit to Coleshill, made a real game of it. The home side applied all the pressure from the start and had a chance to take an early lead when Tony Malanaphy broke through and put Frank Hickman on for virtually an open goal but his shot curled just wide. Heath Hayes recovered to open the scoring on 14 minutes with their first attack. Gary Hill won the ball for Hayes and passed to centre-forward Steven Taylor to race through and hit an unstoppable shot home. Coleshill were unlucky afterwards when a great snap shot from Malanaphy was well saved but they continued to battle away after this set-back and the deserved equaliser came just before the interval. Centre forward John Taylor headed down from a corner for Kevin Byrne whose shot seemed to rattle around the inside of the goalposts before dropping to Phil Bailey who knocked in the goal from close range. The winning strike from Coleshill arrived 15 minutes from normal time. Jim Rosborough supplied the cross to John Taylor who, although his shot was partially cleared, saw it fall to Kevin Byrne (can't read last couple of lines, need to check Herald again)
Man Of The Match: Malcolm Teeling.
