Coleshill clearly outclassed their Scoreline Division One opponents from Upton upon Seven in this first round fixture of the Combination Challenge Cup. Surprisingly however they made hard work of it early on and only notched once before the interval when Ian Cockerill struck with a low hard drive from close range. Encouraged by this and refreshed by the interval, Coleshill came out for the second session with renewed vigour and began to dominate proceedings. Phil Bailey made it two nil when he volleyed home a right wing cross from Jim Rosborough. Cockerill was now buzzing and notched his second goal with a brilliant solo run which left two Upton defenders bedazzled before he let fly with an unstoppable shot. Bailey scored the fourth with a virtual repeat of the first goal and Coleshill's hard working centre forward John Taylor finally got in on the action with a well timed header into the top corner of the net ten minutes from time. Reserve forward Paul Greaves was brought on as substitute 25 minutes from time for his first team debut following a number of excellent reports from his games in the Reserves. Manager Brian Jordan was delighted with his team's performance and our Man On The Spot, Derek Gordon, nominated Ian Cockerill as Man Of The Match.
