COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill were forced out of this second round tie of the Walsall Senior Cup by two late goals. Coleshill certainly had most of the play in the first half. Their best chance came from Frank Hickman in the 20th minute when he headed just over. Blakenhall fought back and forced two corners in quick succession followed by a near miss from Mark Davies when he shot just wide. Just before the interval Hickman and Ian Cockerill both went close for Coleshill. After the re-start Cockerill looked certain to score when he ran through the Blakenhall defence and shot on the run with near perfect timing and was most unfortunate that the ball went wide by a whisker as Steve Pomroy, in the visitors goal, never moved. All the scoring action came in the last 15 minutes of normal time when Mark Sparrock crossed for Darren Simkin to score for Blakenhall through a crowded goalmouth. Sparrock then made it 2-0 for Blakenhall in the 84th minute following a fine solo run. Centre forward John Taylor got a consolation goal for Coleshill but it was too little too late. Jim Rosborough got the nod as Man Of The Match.
