SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE

A goal in the dying seconds by McManamin gave the Police the points in a see-saw thriller against Coleshill. The Police took the lead after 15 minutes when a beautifully flighted West free kick was headed home by Grimshaw from 12 yards. Coleshill punished a defensive mix-up to draw level 11 minutes later but within 2 minutes the Police regained the lead through Scivens close range effort. Seconds later the Police stretched their lead when Powney collected the ball in the area and fed McManamin who volleyed into the roof of the net. Twenty minutes into the second half Coleshill pulled one back from the penalty spot after keeper Carmell hauled down Taylor. Hickman made no mistake and Morton levelled the scores. But in the dying seconds McManamin’s flag kick eluded a posse of defenders and flew into the top corner.

SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
After ten minutes the first chance of the game fell to Davidson for the Police with a free header at the far post. However his header was easily saved by Tye. A minute later Hickman for the visitors should have snatched the lead but his unchallenged near post header flew high and wide. After 15 minutes a beautifully flighted free-kick by west found the head of Grimshaw 12 yards out, who guided the ball into the corner of the net to give the Police the lead. 26 minutes into the half Coleshill drew level after a mix-up in the defence on the edge of the area when West attempted to volley clear but the ball was deflected over the keeper's head into the roof of the net. Coleshill continued to press forward and a minute later Frain hit a shot goalward but it just crept past the far post. With two minutes of the half remaining the police regained the lead when West played a precision pass to Davidson down the line who crossed into the Town six-yard box, the keeper getting down to the ball but fumbled it to the feet of Scrives who had the simple task of touching the ball over the line. Seconds later the police stretched their lead, Powney collected the ball in the Town area and after good close control laid the ball off to Davidson whose first time touch to McMenamin was met on the half-volley and flew into the corner of the net.

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill Town just ended up on the wrong side of a thrilling seven goal encounter on Saturday afternoon. The pack Meadow squad - who at one stage were sitting 3-1 behind - fought back admirably to 3-3 only to be denied a splendid draw by a dramatic last minute winner. The game began in fine style with both sides going close before the Police opened the scoring on the 15th minute. A West free kick provided the source and a Grimshaw header produced the finish and the Police were ahead. Within 11 minutes however, the topsy turvey nature of the game took it's first twist when Coleshill drew level with what seemed to be an own goal. It all looked as though it was heading for a 1-1 half time score but the Police dramatically struck twice in the dying seconds to snatch the lead. First Scriven notched from close range and then McMenamin made it 3-1 to leave Coles wondering what happened during the break. In the second half however Coleshill showed real fighting quality to draw level with goals from a Hickman penalty and then via Morton. All seemed to be heading for a thoroughly entertaining draw but then, once again, Coleshill were denied by an injury-time effort from McMenamin to give West Midlands Police the glory.

*Paul Morton scored on his debut, the third Coleshill player to do so this season.
