SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Despite a blank score sheet there were plenty of thrills and spills on this rain soaked ground.
COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Very Few Smiles In Derby
On a pitch more suited to an ice rink Mile Oak squandered the one and only real chance in this game, one which would have put the skids under a big Coleshill Town side. Both sides did well to come to terms with the conditions, with the emphasis being on good defence and steady nerves. The one deciding factor was that miss early in the second half after the ball had skidded off the head of a defender, leaving Lloyd Cooper with all the time in the world to net. He tried to lob the stranded keeper when there was no need to and saw his effort float well wide. Coleshill players afterward bemoaned the fact that they hadn't had that chance, a few Rovers players thought the same! Both keepers, Roger Tye for Coleshill and Gary Brookes of Rovers, had superb games, coping and handling well with such a greasy sphere. Town had slightly the better of the first half with Bailey heading a corner just wide, this was followed by a delightful move in which a left wing cross was brought under control by Christopher who turned and hit it in one movement, the ball striking the foot of the post with the keeper helpless. Rovers looked a lot sharper in the second period with Tye diving at the feet of Taylor to smother following a well flighted Slattery cross. Oak adopted a long ball strategy, hoping the ball would skid through to their forwards, the only trouble being their forwards weren't up to it! In the closing stages it was Brooke's turn to shine, turning aside a Rosborough close range shot, then diving full length to save a Bennett long range volley at the foot of the post.
