Till Hat-Trick Helps Lye To Flying Start
MFL Prem hot shot Jack Till just can't stop scoring at the moment. The Lye Town striker bagged all three goals in his side's FA Cup win against AFC Wulfrunians last week-end and he hit another hat-trick as the Black Country side beat Coleshill Town in their league opener. A Ben Jevons own goal had handed the home side an early lead but this was cancelled out on the half hour when Till glanced in a header following a flowing move. Five minutes later, the striker latched on to a Sam Tye through ball for his second and although Reece leek levelled midway through thr second period it was Till who rounded things off eight minutes from time with another header.

So the league season starts with the visit of Lye Town to Pack Meadow. A team Coleshill have found hard to beat losing all four previous meetings. However it was Coleshill that started on the front foot and had the first chance after only 3 minutes as the ball was won in midfield Tom Weale played a one two with Luke Barlone but just as he was about to shoot a defender blocked the effort.


Lye started to get in the game and missed a good chance from a corner with a header going wide but It was Coleshill who made the next corner count after 11 minutes when a Sam Adkins right wing corner was only cleared straight back to him and as he cut inside his cross shot was deflected past the keeper by Jevons for an own goal 1-0 Coleshill.


Both sides had chances the best coming from Coleshills Weale who dribbled past two defenders but shot wide from edge of the area. However a dubious free kick on the corner of Coleshills area saw the equaliser on 28 minutes as a short free kick was whipped into the area for No9 Till to glance into the bottom corner of the net. 1-1


Lye started to get a grip of the game and when Coleshill lost possession in midfield a good through ball found Till running free to shoot hard and low under the advancing Hathaway after 34 minutes to give Lye the lead.


Hathaway was soon in action again with an outstanding save from a header inside the box, Coleshill nearly equalised on 40 minutes when Reece Leek shot wide from a short free kick on the edge of the box but the half ended with Lye in front.


The second half started with Coleshill on top and nearly scoring first when Right back Gonzales saw a shot go wide after a one two with Barlone. Then a defence splitting pass by Barlone sent Beckley to run on goal but again the Lye keeper saved. However it was Lye that came closest to scoring when a free kick was headed goalwards only for Hathaway to turn it onto the bar and the danger was cleared.


After 60 minutes Cobourne was sent on and he was straight into the action nearly scoring and then 6 minutes later chasing a long ball that the defender could only clear to the feet of Leek who shot into the back of the net from the corner of the box. 66 minutes 2-2. Coleshill were now on top and on 70 minutes a penalty was awarded for a push in the back of Barlone he stepped up himself to take the kick but it was easily saved by Bedford. This did not deter Coleshill who had several other chances but found it hard to beat Bedford in the Lye goal.


The killer blow came after 80 minutes when a long clearance by Bedford was headed on to Till who looked yards offside but he kept his cool to beat Hathaway to the ball and head home for his hattrick and Lyes winner.


Overall Coleshill did not deserve to lose the game but did not deserve to win either so the record against Lye continues.
