After a good start by Coventry United with them having more possession and playing the better football it was Coleshill who took the lead on 6 minutes when they won the ball in midfield, Cobourne played a ball to the feet of Benjamin who then squared the ball into the path of Weale on the edge of the box, he took one touch and rifled the ball into the net for 1-0.
Coventry had their first chance on 10 minutes from a right wing free kick swung into the box that was held up and passed inside but the player shot tamely for Hathaway to easily save. United were getting on top and had another chance when a header from a free kick went wide. Coleshill started to get into the game and a right wing cross shot from Gonzales was tipped over the bar by Coventry keeper Morris.
Coventry had another chance when the Williams weaved his way past two defenders but again his shot was easily saved. Coventry couldn't find a way past the Coleshill defence and paid the price when, on 29 minutes, a long throw in from the right by Weale was miss-controlled by Benjamin but the ball fell to Cobourne to tap into the corner of the net from just inside the 6 yard box for Coleshill's second. It wasn't long before Cobourne had another chance as the ball was won in midfield and played out to him on the left he cut inside the full back but his deflected shot was tipped over the bar by the keeper.
It was becoming end to end football with Coventry first having a chance when a right wing cross was cleared off the line by a Coleshill defender then Coleshill had a chance when Benjamin set up Weale again only for his shot to be deflected wide for a corner. Coventry had the last chance of the first half when a long ball (the first they had played) over the Coleshill defence set up the Ndouv to cut inside the area but Hathaway made another great save to deny a goal. H/T 2-0.
At the start of the second half Coleshill had the first chance when Weale headed over from a corner by Quaynor then Moudime made a run down the wing cutting inside but again his shot was saved. Then they missed a chance from a corner as the ball was cleared. Coleshill then had a chance as Cobourne played a 1-2 with Benjamin but saw his shot blocked for a corner.
On 67 minutes Coventry won a free kick 20 yards out Thornton squared it to O'Grady but his shot his blocked. Barlone then had a chance for Coleshill as he controled a long free kick on his chest a tried a first time volley from outside the box but his shot went over the bar. Coleshill started to get on top and had several chance as first Benjamin was denied by the keeper and then Rathbone, just on for Cobourne shot wide after 78 minutes.
Coventry were still in the game at this stage and a ball through Coleshill's defence almost has the attacker on goal but a great tackle by Quaynor stopped the danger.
Then Coleshill sealed the win on 87 minutes when a right wing free kick was played inside to Rathbone who buried his shot into the corner of the net from 25 yards, 3-0. But deep in stoppage time Coleshill rub salt into the Coventry wounds as a throw in on the right is controlled by Benjamin and he played the ball into the path of the on rushing Beckley to power the ball into the far corner for 4-0.
Overall Coventry United had more possession and played some good crisp passing football to feet but just couldn't break down a resolute solid Coleshill defence and with Coleshill clinical in front of goal when it mattered this was a great result for the home side.

Well hello one and all. After the six goal thriller at the weekend that saw CUFC progress into the next round of the FA Cup with a fine 5-1 triumph over Lichfield City setting themselves up for a mouth watering tie against near neighbours Bedworth United. Tonight though they turn their attentions to the league as they make the short trip to play Coleshill Town. This game should and will I’m sure prove another stern test of the CUFC’s credentials in trying to establish themselves into this very competitive league.
CUFC manager Terry Anderson has a few injuries to his squad so will have to rely on the very capable depth to his squad as he did on Saturday. With the players that stepped in on Saturday doing so well will once again prove a nice problem for Terry Anderson as he decides to pick his starting line up??
The referee gets the game under way and the game starts at a blistering early pace. Both teams are looking to get forward and CTFC draw the first blood in the 6th minute when the CTFC No8 Thomas Weale pounces on a CUFC defensive lapse and steers the ball past the helpless CUFC keeper Richard Morris for the first goal of the game.
CTFC 1 CUFC 0
The early goal goes to CTFC and the game continues at the same fast pace. CUFC respond with a tamely hit shot by Kevin Thornton from a Joshua O’Grady free kick that goes straight to the CTFC keeper Paul Hathaway in the 9th minute. The next 10 minutes sees both teams win a set piece each that are both easily dealt with. The pace of this game is ferocious and CTFC are making it very hard for CUFC to settle into any sort of rhythm. CTFC are standing firm as a unit and breaking very quickly with direct balls being pumped up to their pacey forwards.
CUFC manage to create a chance in the 26th minute from a throw in that sees the hard working Kai Williams jink his way past a couple of defenders before seeing his shot go harmlessly wide of the target. Then in the next minute another chance falls to CUFC for Pierre Moudime when he runs into the area from a short free kick that sees his low shot gathered with ease by the CTFC keeper Paul Hathaway.
This game is definitely end to end at the minute and in the 28th minute from a long CTFC throw in, the No9 Shane Benjamin heads the to the back of the area where the No4 Modou Jarra is lurking as he stabs the loose ball into the net for their second goal of the game.

That is not the start CUFC was hoping for and this is going to be a massive job now in trying to get back into the game. CTFC are not letting up and another chance for them is not long in coming. In the 31st minute their No10 Simeon Cobourne forces his way into the area and Keeper Richard Morris has to race out and make a great save to stop CTFC from increasing their lead. CTFC are really piling on the pressure and their next good chance comes in the 34th minute when their No9 Shane Benjamin makes some space for himself before seeing his powerful drive well saved by the keeper Richard Morris.
The 35th minute sees CUFC’s Jamie Coleman having to go off and replaced with Elliot Palmer in the centre of the defence. The first half is nearing its end and a Brian Ndlovu shot after a precise pass by Kai Williams in the 43rd minute brings out a really good save from the CTFC keeper Paul Hathaway. The game is now at 45+2 minutes and the CTFC No11 Giovanni Dainty gets himself a yellow card for I think dissent and the resulting free kick sees Joshua O’Grady send his shot over the cross bar before the referee blows up for half time.

Second half
The second half gets under way and no further changes have been made at this stage. CUFC start the half better creating themselves a couple of chances when Pierre Moudime shoots straight at the keeper Paul Hathaway after a great mazy run in the 50th minute and Kai Williams then shoots at the keeper Paul Hathaway after a good through ball by Kevin Thornton in the 53rd minute. CUFC are finding it very hard to break down a very strong CTFC side but they are not giving up at all to their credit. CUFC are continuing to try and play their brand of football but are being closed down very quickly giving them very little time on the ball.
The 58th minute sees the CTFC No4 Modou Jarra collect a yellow card for persistent fouling before CUFC make another change by taking off Brian Ndlovu and sending on Antonio Williams in the 59th minute. The next 9 minutes pass before the CTFC No3 Joshua Quaynor gets himself booked for a tackle on Joshua O’Grady in the 68th minute. Then in the next minute CUFC’s Jean Dakouri is booked for the same offence and the resulting free kick for CTFC ending in a shot by the No8 Thomas Weale going just over the cross bar.
Then in the 70th minute both clubs make another change with CTFC taking off no10 Simeon Cobourne and sending on No14 Dean Rathbone and CUFC taking off Jean Dakouri and sending on Muziwandile Nduna.
CUFC’s keeper Richard Morris is called into action again in the 75th minute as he races out to the edge of his area to make another great save at the feet of the CTFC’s no9 Shane Benjamin. The 76th minute sees CTFC make their final change by taking off No4 Modou Jarra and sending on No15 Mykel Beckiey.
The game now moves into the last 10 minutes and the 83rd minute sees CUFC’s Kai Williams gets himself booked after a challenge. Then in the 87th minute from another CTFC long throw in, the No14 Dean Rathbone sends a screamer of a shot a full 22 yrds past the keeper Richard Morris for a fantastic goal.

Well that about wraps it up for CTFC with that peach of a goal but once again CUFC show their never say die attitude when Elliot Palmer who was pushed up forward for the final minutes brings out a great save from the CTFC keeper Paul Hathaway with a fierce drive in the 88th minute. The game is now into added time and after yet another long throw in, another chance comes for CTFC when the ball falls to the No15 Mykel Beckiey and he controls the ball before firing his shot into the back of the net for their fourth goal of the game as the referee soon blows up for full time.

In summing up this game, I said in my introduction that this was going to be a stern test. Well it definitely was as CTFC are a very good strong and resolute outfit. They keep their shape well and are very hard to break down. They close you down well leaving you with very little time on the ball as CUFC found out tonight and I’m sure that CTFC are definitely going to be in the shake up come the end of the season. They play to their strengths with a direct style of play that suits their very mobile forward line so very well played CTFC.
As for CUFC tonight, they to be fair never gave up till the very end and tried to play football from start to finish so should be applauded for that. A few individual errors were at fault for a couple of the goals but we just have to take this one on the chin, dust ourselves down and move on to the next game and go again. This league is of course of a high standard and every team on their day is going to be capable of beating each other so this season is definitely going to be very interesting I suppose till the very end.
Players worthy of a mention tonight would have to be Pierre Moudime in the first half where he managed to get forward quite a few times with good effect, Kai Williams ran his socks off and deserved a goal for his efforts and I’m sure many goals will come for Kai in the coming weeks and months. Kai ran my man of the match tonight close but it goes to Keeper Richard Morris for his string of fine saves that kept his team mates in the game for long periods until those two late goals sealed CUFC’s fate so very well played Richard Morris.
So we move on to the next game and go again.
