SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Sporting Khalsa and Coleshill town shared the points in a 1-1 draw at the Aspray Arena. David Meese fired the home side into a 23rd minute lead from the spot after Luke Shearer had been fouled. But it was all square two minutes into the second half when sub Simeon Cobourne netted. Khalsa almost hit a late winner but Coleshill keeper Paul Hathaway pulled off an excellent save to deny Simeon Townsend.

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Cobourne Pounces To Earn Coleshill Point

A point apiece was probably the right result on Saturday as two well matched teams slugged it out in wet, awkward conditions. A first half Dave Meese penalty was cancelled out by a predatory finish by Simeon Cobourne just after the interval but Coleshill had keeper Paul Hathaway to thank for their point, his fine save denying Simeon Townsend late on. The early exchanges saw Khalsa dominate, Carlo Franco heading into the side netting from a short corner before Town's Luke Barlone sliced over his own bar trying to clear a corner. On 11 minutes, Tes Robinson's effort was cleared off the line from a corner and on 16 minutes Meese curled a shot just the wrong side of the post after good work by Marvin Nesbett. Khalsa took the lead on 21 minutes as Luke Shearer was brought down by Liam Francis and up stepped Meese to roll the spot-kick past Hathaway. The visitors should have equalised on 26 minutes but Francis wasted a good opportunity to head home Josh Quaynor's wickedly delivered corner. Their upsurge continued in the second period and was rewarded on 49 minutes when Cobourne tapped home at the far post after brilliant work by Aaron Garvey. The visitors began to turn the screw, Reece Leek almost giving Coleshill the lead, only to be denied by Tom Turner, while Sam Adkins launched an effort over the bar. Khalsa got back on top and could have won it but Hathaway produced a top-drawer save, acrobatically pushing away Townsend's header from Johnny Haynes inch perfect cross. But Coleshill had the final chance as, deep into stoppage time, a vicious free-kick by Tom Weale curled just wide of the post, having looked goal-bound all the way.

A VIEW FROM THE OTHER SIDE
A Match report taken from Sporting Khalsa web site

A point was probably the right result all round as two well-matched teams slugged it out in wet, awkward conditions at the Aspray Arena.

A first-half Dave Meese penalty was cancelled out by a predatory finish by Simeon Coburne just after the interval, but Coleshill had keeper Paul Hathaway to thank for their point, a fine save denying Simeon Townsend late on.

The early exchanges saw Khalsa dominate, Carlo Franco heading into the side netting from a short corner routine involving Johnny Haynes and Craig Bannister, before Luke Barlone sliced over his own crossbar trying to clear a corner.

On 11 minutes, Tes Robinson’s effort was cleared off the line from a corner and on 16 minutes Meese curled a shot just the wrong side of the post after good work by Marvin Nisbett.

Khalsa took the lead on 21 minutes, Luke Shearer was brought down by Liam Francis and up stepped Meese to roll the spot kick past Hathaway.

The visitors then wrestled themselves back into the game quickly and should have equalised on 26 minutes when Francis had a good opportunity to head home Josh Quaynor’s wickedly delivered corner kick.

Although there were no real chances, the visitors had well and truly regained the momentum by the half time whistle.

And their upsurge continued in the second period, rewarded on 49 minutes when Coburne tapped home at the far post after brilliant work by Aaron Garvey to carve out the opportunity.

The visitors began to turn the screw, Reece Leek breaking down the left and almost giving Coleshill the lead, only to be denied by Tom Turner.

And immediately afterwards the ongoing chaos in the Khalsa defensive ranks continued with Sam Adkins launching an effort over the bar after an attack in which there was a strong shout for a penalty after Garvey went tumbling in the area.

In the final phases, it was Khalsa who looked slightly more likely to grab the points.

On 75 minutes, substitute Townsend was just unable to react quickly enough to put a shot on target from Brad Lawley’s knock down from Mensah Kinch’s cross.

And on 82 minutes, Hathaway produced a top drawer save, acrobatically pushing away Townsend’s header from Haynes’ inch-perfect cross.

Deep into stoppage time, a vicious free-kick by Thomas Weale curled just wide of the post, giving the home supporters an anxious moment as it looked goal-bound.

Khalsa return to action on Tuesday night, welcoming Loughborough University to the Aspray Arena (kick off 7.45pm).

Man-of-the-match: Alex Perry.
