SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Just So Three-sy For Leaders Of The Pack
It was business as usual at the top of the table where leaders Alvechurch, Lye Town and Coleshill Town all chalked up wins. Craig Milligan capped his 99th game for Coleshill Town by scoring a hat-trick in the 5-1 demolition of hosts Tividale. He struck twice inside the opening 20 minutes and completed his treble with a late penalty after Simeon Cobourne and Mykel Beckley had added their names to the scoresheet.
REPORT
A fine 5-1 win that stretches Coleshill's winning streak to nine games and strengthens the grip on 3rd place with 4th placed Westfields losing.
Just a couple of weeks ago Tividale had given Town a scare although they eventually won 4-2 but this was a shadow of that side and the Colemen where rarely in danger.
Coleshill were missing two very influential players in Tom Weale and Jordan Nadat but on the positive side Danny Tymon and Brendon Murphy returned to the club, making the bench. Although the pitch was heavy, it held up well and didn't effect the football too much. Coleshill were straight into their stride and Simeone Cobourne could well have earned a penalty but the Colemen did take the lead in the 8th minute. A Dean Rathbone corner came straight back to him and from a better angle sent in a peach of a cross that Craig Milligan deftly headed into the far corner of the net. On 19 minutes it was 2-0 and it was Milligan again finding the far corner of the net but this time with a left foot shot from the edge of the box. Dan Smith got to the bye line and crossed for Walker but he shot narrowly wide. Simeon Cobourne's run into the box was thwarted by a cracking tackle by Hurdman. Liam Smith did well with a through ball for Dan Smith and although Town keeper Paul Hathaway got there first his clearance fell back to Liam Smith but the midfielder shot wide. On 38 minutes a Dean Rathbone through ball sent Simeon Cobourne clear and he raced past the advancing keeper to run the ball into an empty net. Dan Smith headed over the bar a free kick by Hurdman but the visitors ended the half well in control.
The second half started slowly as Coleshill sat back and the home side saw more of the ball but rarely got past Coleshill's determined defence. Just before the hour mark keeper Hayward and a defender hesitated after a harmless looking cross and Mykel Beckley nipped in between the pair and toe poked the ball into the net. Simeon Cobourne's pace got him in the box again and when he went to ground it looked like a penalty but nothing was given. However the Referee did award a penalty on 64 minutes to Tividale when Dan Smith went down under a Dale Taylor challenge. Chris Bladen converted. Danny Tymon took the field and it was nice to see the former club captain playing again after a long term injury. Keeper Hayward was out quickly at Mykel Beckley's feet twice in quick succession before Brendan Murphy entered the game, another returning player, and he almost scored immediately but his shot deflected for a corner and then his through ball came to Craig Milligan who was up-ended in the box, penalty. 99th appearance, two goals already and birthday weekend, there was only one person taking this spot kick. Milligan completed his hat-trick! The referee then decided to award the home team a penalty although he was the only one in the ground who knew why! This time however Bladen blazed the spot kick over the bar.
The run continues and the squad looks stronger and more confident with each game. Quorn up next on Tuesday night.
