COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Wembley In Touching Distance As Coleshill Town Reach FA Vase Semi-Finals

COLESHILL Town marched another step closer to Wembley with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Midland League adversaries Sporting Khalsa.

Dean Rathbone rounded off a ruthless move to nudge the Colemen in front early on and Bradley Lawley's own goal three minutes before half-time had most of the 939 at Pack Meadow in high spirits.

Jordan Nadat and Craig Milligan spurned chances to seal their progress after the interval but other than a couple of late scares, Simon Lyons's men were rarely troubled.

After a tight start, Coleshill moved in front when Nadat battled for possession on the halfway line and rolled Danny Tymon down the left with Rathbone on hand to guide a 12-yard finish inside Tom Turner's far post.

The Colemen had to soak up their fair share of pressure but the backline, superbly marshalled by linchpin Rob Evans, stood firm.

And it was another burst down the flank that doubled the home side's lead when Reece Leek drove forward in spite of the attention of Tim Jackson and his low cross was bundled in by the backpedalling Lawley.

Milligan and Nadat both fired just off target from inside a busy box before Ceesay skied a 15-yard effort after a rare mistake from Josh Quaynor.

Ceesay was then denied at point-blank range by Paul Hathaway's strong hand with nine minutes to play and the game was up by the time David Meese spun and fired wide of the post as the clock struck 90.

Coleshill join South Shields and Cleethorpes Town in the semi-final draw. Bromsgrove Sporting host Buckland Athletic in the fourth quarter-final tomorrow.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Town Carry On March To Arch

Coleshill town are just one game away from Wembley following their 2-0 victory over Midland Football League rivals Sporting Khalsa. Nearly 1000 fans saw Dean Rathbone fire the home side into an eighth minute lead and the Colemen wrapped up this quarter final clash when visiting defender Brad Lawler turned the ball into his own net just before the break from Reece Leek's cross. It could have been three early in the second half but Jordan Nadat was denied by visiting keeper Tom Turner. Khalsa's best chance came in the final nine minutes when Yusifu Ceesay's point blank effort was saved by home keeper Paul Hathaway. Coleshill boss Simon Lyons said: " I thought we defended well in what was a tight game. We had to be disciplined and, going forward, we looked dangerous and always had a goal in us."

THE NON-LEAGUE PAPER WROTE
Hot Coles Now Await Their Fate

Victorious boss Simon Lyons is happy to take on all comers after Coleshill Town eased into the last four of the FA Vase against Midland League rivals Sporting Khalsa. Dean Rathbone's eighth minute strike and an own goal from Khalsa's Bradley Lawley just before the interval decided matters at Pack Meadow as the visitors created little despite promising spells of possession. "I am not bothered who we get," Lyons told The NLP. "people talk about teams and reputations but I don't care. We have two legs to play for a place at Wembley and whoever we get, we get. I am just looking forward to the occasion. I guess we might prefer to be away first to keep ourselves in it because we can give anyone a game here. We defended well in what was a tight game. We had to be disciplined and going forward we looked dangerous and always had a goal in us."

After a nip-and-tuck start, the Colemen moved in front through an incisive break. Jordan Nadat held up on the half way line for Danny Tymon to gallop down the right (left) and Rathbone steered his cut back around keeper Tom Turner. At the other end, Yusifu Ceesay had a goal chalked off for offside while Luke Shearer eventually found some space to dig out a cross only for Marvin Nisbett to nod tamely into Paul Hayward's (Hathaway) hands. It was another burst down the flank that doubled Coleshill's lead three minutes before the break when Reece Leek flew down the right and his low cross was bundled in by the retreating Lawley. Nadat might have sealed the deal but thumped into Turner's hands five minutes after the restart, while Khalsa's fortunes were summed up when Ceesay walloped high and wide after a mistake by Josh Quaynor. Craig Milligan and Nadat narrowly missed the target from presentable openings for the hosts before Ceesay's point blank prod was pawed away by Hayward (Hathaway)
nine minutes from time to leave Coleshill eagerly awaiting the Semi-Final draw. Khalsa boss Ian Rowe acknowledged his side had not done enough to warrant anything from the clash. "We got off to a terrible start and conceded a bad goal. Looking back, I think I got the team wrong in terms of the shape to be honest," he said. "Ultimately, FA Vase Quarter Finals don't come around very often. You have to put your heart and soul on the line but not enough of them did and it feels like a chance gone."

NON-LEAGUE FANZONE WROTE

The FA Vase is a competition that is constantly writing new stories. With so many clubs spread across these lower levels of the English pyramid, the opportunity to appear at Wembley could be described as a huge even playing field. In North Warwickshire, there is a new side re-writing their own history books in the form of Coleshill Town. The Midland League side comfortably beat fellow league opposition Sporting Khalsa by a 2-0 scoreline to progress into the Semi-Finals, and they can begin to dream of a big day out at the National Stadium.

An eighth minute strike from Dean Rathbone and an unfortunate own goal from Bradley Lawley in the latter stages of the first half sealed Coleshill’s progress through to March’s two-legged Semi-Final tie against one of Bromsgove Sporting, Cleethorpes Town or South Shields. Coleshill controlled the majority of the contest, and it was in fact somewhat surprising they did not add to their lead in the second half.

Coleshill can be described as a relatively humble club at Step Five of the Non-League pyramid. They are clearly a club on the up as they lie in second in the Midland League, but with their average crowds hovering around the 100 mark, their FA Vase success is bring some much needed supporter attention into the club. The Quarter-Final gate was recorded as 939 at Pack Meadow, which highlights what an FA Vase run can do for the many small towns and communities that the competition represents. The bumper crowd will now be licking their lips at the prospect of an even more crucial home tie next month. The money generated from the cup run is a bonus of course, but hopefully it can also bolster supporter numbers going forward. Add to that a new 3G pitch at Pack Meadow and you can see the development the club wants to make as a whole.

The home crowd were not disappointed by Coleshill’s display especially when they took an early lead thanks to Rathbone’s clinical finish. A ball down the left flank from Jordan Nadat released Danny Tymon, who in turn delivered a pinpoint cross for Rathbone to guide the ball home past Tom Turner in the Khalsa goal. Rathbone was the hero in the last round with a hat-trick against Crowborough Athletic, and he has now found the net nineteen times this season which indicates why he is one of the most feared players at this level.

The rest of the half was a competitive encounter, but you could tell Coleshill had that extra edge to their play. Reece Leek had made a couple of dangerous runs down the right flank during the half, and it turned out to be the warning sign that Sporting Khalsa failed to neutralise, as helped create Coleshill’s second. He whipped in a tricky cross that dipped into the path of Lawley who could do nothing but divert the ball into his own net. Coleshill now had a two goal advantage going into half time, and you almost knew that was enough for them to see out the clash.

Coleshill should really have added to their tally in the second half where they controlled proceedings overall. Rathbone proved to be a constant thorn in Khalsa’s side as he demonstrated his skillful attributes on several occasions. The glaring opportunity of the half was of Rathbone’s creation as he played a ball across the edge of the six-yard box for Nadat who somehow fired over. Craig Milligan also went close for Coleshill, and Nadat was then foiled in a one-on-one opportunity up against Turner, who kept the scoreline down to a competitive one. David Meese dragged an effort narrowly wide late on for Khalsa, but it clearly wasn’t their day on this occasion.

Coleshill now have the luxury of looking forward to yet another two games that can be classed as the biggest in their history, and shows that the club has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. Without the exposure of the FA Vase it may have been some time before myself like many others visited Pack Meadow, but that is the beauty of this competition in creating exposure for clubs like no other. I for one will certainly be back to see how the club progresses. Who knows, many more people may be seeing Coleshill Town under the arch at Wembley come May.
