SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Jordan The Hero In Clash Of The Towns
Coleshill Town kept their title hopes alive with a last-gasp victory over fellow challengers Lye Town. It looked to be heading to a goalless draw until Jordan Nadat pounced for the only goal of the game, heading in a 90th minute free kick. Lye pushed for an equaliser in injury time but were left empty handed and are now 14 points adrift of leaders Alvechurch, Coleshill remain nine points off the top with two games in hand.
REPORT
Amongst all the records falling at the moment, a first ever win over Lye Town might have been overlooked. Lye only came into the Alliance (now MFL Premier) in 2014, so this was just the sixth time the sides had met, but Coleshill had lost all five previous encounters. With a bit of squad rotation, a terrible pitch and a bogey team still smarting after defeat to Alvechurch last week, this was a tough, tough ask if the Colemen were going to stretch their winning run to thirteen games.
Lye were up for this game, determined and physical from the off. With the pitch being so bad both teams got the ball forward early which wasn't pretty to watch and resulted in few clear cut chances for either side. A dangerous cross from Andre Gonzales took a deflection off a defender and went inches past the post. James Spray had two long range pots at goal then a Tom Weale cross should have been met by Jesse Race at the far post. Paul Hathaway saved a volley from Tye and then made an even better save from Rowe before coming off his line to claim a cross from Johnson. The best chance of the half came from a Hathaway clearance that was powerfully headed back by Dallison which sent Rowe clear on goal but a joint effort from Hathaway and Tom Fishwick saved the day.
The first half was short on chances and there wasn't many more in the second half as the strength sapping pitch took it's toll and both sides dug in to try and score the one goal that would surely win the game. Gio Dainty got on the end of a Josh Quaynor cross but headed straight at the keeper. Ben Billingham's great delivery from a free kick was headed back across goal but Quaynor was there to clear, Danny Tymon sent Reece Leek clear into the box but keeper Coleman was out quickly at his feet. Jordan Nadat shot across the face of goal, then a cross from Jones came off Andre Gonzales and Paul Hathaway made a great reaction save, then took a cross from Billingham off the head of substitute Till. A cross from Tye was headed out by Gio Dainty but fell to Billingham on the edge of the box and his great volley was well saved by Hathaway. Gio Dainty hit a powerful shot over the bar as time was running out. Then a long ball out from the home defence found Till wide left and as Hathaway came out of goal Till skipped round him and looked a certain scorer. With Jesse Race and Josh Quaynor desperately scrambling back to cover the goal line, Till dragged his shot into the side netting. A let off for Coleshill but it got worse for the home team when, in the dying seconds, Jordan Nadat got infront of the keeper to a cross from Tom Weale and touched into the net. The winner!
Thirteen straight wins, the amazing run continues with nobody dare to dream how far the run could take the Colemen.
