REPORT
So we are off again. The start of the 2017/18 season, not a league game but an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round against Wellington from the West Midlands Regional League. Coleshill played the Herefordshire side at the same stage of the competition ten years ago and continued their record of never having won an FA Cup game by bowing out over two games. But Coleshill are a much better outfit now than they were back in 2007.

Despite a very successful pre-season, Manager Cameron Stuart was nervous as he took charge of his first competitive game' with Five players making their debut, but he needn't have worried as Coleshill settled well and took the lead on eight minutes. Reece Leek got to the bye line and his cross was turned into his own net by Wellington's Mullenger under pressure from Matt Gardner. The returning Dean Rathbone was in the thick of things and had an effort blocked on the line from point blank range. Gardner had an effort also blocked on the goal line but Rathbone was back on 20 minutes to stretch the lead when he sent a vicious shot across the keeper from just inside the box. Wellington had their first sight of goal but blocks from first Jesse Race then Rob Evans prevented the ball getting through to keeper and captain Paul Hathaway. Rathbone then hit the post and then the bar, as Coleshill piled on the pressure but somehow the ball kept out and the half finished with the home side 2-0 up.

It wasn't very long before Coleshill increased the lead through a Rob Evans shot that went between keeper Apperley's legs. Wellington's Josh Hunt toiled away all game and got some reward by getting a free kick just outside the box. Paul Jones took the kick and cleverly found the corner of the net on 52 minutes but just three minutes later Coleshill made it four. Debutant Ryan Edmunds took a free kick wide right and found Matt Gardner who headed home at the far post. Paul Hathaway made possibly his only save of the afternoon as he tipped an effort over the bar before Man Of The Match Reece Leek was brought down inches outside the box. The in form striker confidently stroked the ball home for number five on 64 minutes and then doubled his tally on 75 mins as he jinked along the 18 yard line before sending a rocket shot well out of the reach of keeper Apperley. Shots continued to pepper the visitors goal from Leek, Edmunds and Danny Tymon but with time running out it was Wellington who added to the scoreline. A cross from Perkins found Lewis unmarked at the far post and he had time to pick his spot.

Wellington players and officials were a credit to the club and contributed to a very entertaining game but they were no match for an impressive new look Coleshill.

The Preliminary round of the FA Cup is on Saturday 19th August but Town don't know yet who they will travel to as Bromsgrove Sporting drew 2-2 with Rocester.

Next Saturday, 12th August the League season starts with Loughborough University visiting Pack Meadow.
