MATCH REPORT
Coleshill new Monday night midweek game policy is certainly going to test the squad. Fresh from a bruising, high tempo and mentally draining game at Bromsgrove in the FA Cup, it's straight back into league action at home to Shawbury United. Mind you it was the same for the visitors and they had a mega journey to contend with as well. Anton Astley was missing from Saturday's starting eleven and Joe Halsall and Joe Cole only made the bench as they were carrying slight injuries. In came Jesse Race, Gio Dainty and Liam Molesworth. Strength in depth!
Coleshill could have took the lead very early when confusion in the United defence nearly gifted a goal. Shawbury keeper Ashley was unsure if he could pick up a back-pass ball. Reece Leek blocked his attempted clearance and the ball fell invitingly for Ryan Edmunds who tried to find an empty net but was off target, he had more time than he realised and could have walked the ball in. Matt Gardner shot narrowly wide of the right hand post after good build up play involving Ryan Edmunds, Reece Leek and Liam Molesworth. Leek shot straight at the keeper and Edmunds saw his effort palmed away by Ashley before Liam Molesworth tried to chip the keeper but sent the ball straight into his arms, a great chance. United were competing well and slowly came more into the game but fell behind during their best spell. A deep cross by Ryan Edmunds found Matt Gardner at the back post and his left foot shot went back across goal into far corner of the net on 26 minutes. Gardner had the ball in the net again after a fine move but was off side. Gio Dainty's cross/shot went right across goal and missed the far post by inches. Cullen found himself free and his powerful shot was well saved by home keeper Paul Hathaway and Luke Edwards cleared up and Cullen went down in the box and was screaming for a penalty but nothing was given.
Coleshill increased their lead within a minute of the restart with a solo goal from Ryan Edmunds. The in form midfielder jinked his way from wide left past two defenders and into the box before cutting inside and shooting into the far corner. Keeper Ashley misjudged the flight of the ball and watched the ball sail past him. Armstrong latched on to a weak back pass but Luke Edwards cleared his left foot effort for a corner and from this the visitors reduced the arrears. The corner was taken short to Evans who cleverly worked his way into the box before blasting into the net in off the bar. Hathaway saved from Robinson as the visitors looked to spoil Coleshill's night. Town hit back and Dean Rathbone released Reece Leek who saw his shot deflected onto the bar by keeper Ashley and then save the follow up from Matt Gardner. Coleshill upped the pace and had several chances but the clinical finishing they were looking for escaped them. Gardner, Molesworth and Edmunds all had efforts then Rathbone's cross was almost touched in by Liam Molesworth. Molesworth then bent a shot just wide of the post and Rathbone shot over the bar. The off target shots continued as substitute Brett Fellows right footed into the trees. Gio Dainty headed wide from a Edmunds corner and a Reece Leek run and cross was cleared off the line but Shawbury believed the still had a chance of a point and that chance came in the dying minutes. Armstrong sent a great ball into the box where substitute Ballard chested the ball down but then shot into the side netting.
A third straight league win, only one goal conceded and top of the league. All is going well so far for new manager Cameron Stuart. Two tough away games at Quorn and Wulfrunians coming up over the Bank Holiday weekend.
