SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
It's Coleshill Town who sit at the top of the table following their thrilling 4-3 win at Quorn which secured a fourth straight victory. Coleshill looked to be cruising at the break as goals from Dean Rathbone and a Reece Leek double fired them into a 3-1 interval lead. Liam Molesworth added a fourth early in the second half but they were grateful for the final whistle after a James Hicks hat-trick had made it 4-3.

MATCH REPORT
By Craig Hamilton

Quorn made a good start and a cross from Goold saw the ball fall to Hicks but he shot over from inside the box. Quorn were playing the better football in the first ten minutes but couldn't convert their chances and suffered for this when Reece Leek broke clear on 11 minutes and saw his shot from 25 yards skid under the keeper for 1-0 to Coleshill.

Then Quorn play some nice football down the left as Matwasa played in Goold but his cross missed everyone in the six yard box. Coleshill had a chance as Reece Leek played in Dean Rathbone but his shot was blocked and Gio Dainty's follow up shot went wide. However Coleshill got the upper hand when a long clearance by Town keeper Paul Hathaway was flicked on by Reece Leek to Ryan Edmunds and his low cross was met by Dean Rathbone to slide home from close range 2-0, 26 minutes.

Quorn were far from out of the game and won a free kick on the right which was swung in and met with a powerfull header into the top corner by Hicks, 1-2, 30 minutes. Then the home side had another chance as the ball was played to Sandu who held off a defender but shot wide.

Coleshill then went on the attack and a cross/shot from Jorna Moulton on the right beat keeper Thacker but the ball hit the far post and went wide. Then Reece Leek, playing in an unfamiliar centre forward role, played the ball wide to Ryan Edmunds who danced past two defenders and crossed hard and low into the 6 yard box for Reece Leek to score 3-1, 39 minutes.

Quorn were still playing some nice football and missed a chance as Sandu is freed down the left but his cross was blocked and the half finished with Coleshill in front 3-1.

The second half started as the first finished and it only took Quorn two minutes to get back in the game as slack defending by Coleshill saw the ball bounce to Hicks free in the box to side foot home 2-3, 47 minutes. However Quorn were still celebrating as Coleshill kicked off and the ball was played down the left to Liam Molesworth who cut inside and side footed the ball under the Thacker 2- 4, 48 minutes gone. Then Reece Leek had a chance but the keeper blocked his shot with his feet.

Then Quorn tested Paul Hathaway in the Coleshill goal as a long free kick found Brennan but his shot was easily saved. Then Coleshill had the best chance of the game as a right wing cross by Ryan Edmunds found Reece Leek free in the box but he volleyed the ball into ground and saw it bounce over the bar from 12 yards. Both sides had chances but it looked like Coleshill would win 4-2 but then in the last minute Quorn won the ball in midfield and played it to the right wing where a dangerous cross missed everyone but the ever alert Hicks who had a simple tap in for his hat-trick to make it 3-4.

Coleshill just had time to kick off as the referee blew for full time.

Quorn fielded new signing Cameron Powell in the only change from the previous game. Powell replaced the injured Leavi Oshungbure, who looks to be side-lined for some time following his ankle injury on Wednesday night.

The visitors forced two early corners but the first chance of the game fell at the other end, James Hicks couldn’t direct is header on target following Nick Goold’s corner. Quorn attacked again and Goold’s cross was volleyed wide by Rob Mulonga. Against the run of play the visitors took the lead in the 11th minute, Reece Leek was given too much time to line up his shot from 25 yards and he beat Ryan Thacker with a well hit shot but the keeper misjudged the effort and allowed the ball to slip through his grasp.

Quorn’s injury woes continued with Powell carried off with a nasty looking knee injury. Jake Dodds came on and Simon Alcott moved to the right. Quorn re-grouped and another Goold cross caused concern for the visitors but there was no one there to take advantage. Coleshill doubled their advantage on 26 minutes when Quorn were exposed down the left-hand side and a simple cross to the unmarked Dean Rathbone was calmly converted. Three minutes later Quorn were back in it, Goold’s free kick was met superbly by Hicks and he planted his header firmly past Paul Hathaway.

Quorn were exposed again down the left in a carbon copy of the second goal, this time Leek profited with an easy tap-in past Thacker. Quorn’s injury jinx struck again and Amarvir Sandhu had to be replaced by the returning Dominic Brennan, himself just returning from injury. Quorn came back into it and created a couple of chances just before the break but the score-line remained 3-1 to the visitors.

It took Quorn just two minutes after the break to get a foothold back in the game, Hicks volleying past Hathaway from close range following a half-cleared corner that Alcott knocked back in. Almost immediately Quorn threw it away, Liam Molesworth cutting in form the right unopposed before continuing into the box and slipping the ball past Thacker into the far corner.

Brennan nearly brought Quorn back to within a one goal deficit but Hathaway saved his well struck effort and Quorn were still facing an uphill task to get something out of the game. Quorn continued fighting and were rewarded when Alcott won the ball before releasing substitute Matt Dawson, his cross reached Hicks, who calmly completed his hat-trick but time was against the home side and Coleshill ran out 4-3 winners.
