SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Edmunds Wraps Up Win For New Leaders

Coleshill Town are the new MFA Premier Division leaders following their 3-1 win at new boys Haughmond. But it wasn't until the final stages that they managed to wrap up the victory that took them two points clear at the top. Matt Gardner handed the visitors a 36th minute lead with Dean Rathbone doubling the advantage 20 minutes from time. But the Coleshill nerves were on edge when Haughmond reduced the arrears five minutes later through Scott Ryan to set up a tense finale. The visitors though wrapped up the win when Ryan Edmunds netted a third deep in injury time.

MATCH REPORT
Coleshill travelled to the new boys in the league Haughmond, a suburb of Shrewsbury. The Mond have made a decent start to the season with two wins and a draw from their five games so far and lie in mid-table. Their pitch is amongst the best in the league although the facility is part of a big complex including a leisure centre.

Coleshill put their defeat in the FA Cup behind them and started very well and should have been well in front but the home keeper kept out goalbound headers from Matt Gardner and Dean Rathbone. Town took the lead on 36 minutes when a fine run and cross by Jorna Moulton was met in the centre of goal by Matt Gardner who thumped the ball home. Coleshill had to wait until the 70th minute before they increased their lead although they had plenty of chances to do so before then. A sweeping move down the left side found Dean Rathbone who cut inside before shooting powerfully into the corner of the net from just inside the 18 yard box. The home side came back into the game on 75 minutes when Scott Ryan scored which meant the last quarter of an hour was a bit nervy but in time added on Ryan Edmunds made sure of the points with a solo goal. Edmunds had the ball close to the corner flag and somehow squirmed his way into the box, cut back and found the net with a left foot strike.

Top of the league, played Six, won Six! Next stop Worcester City.
