MATCH REPORT
By Colin Wheatley

Conditions :- Warm autumn day with sunny spells. Pitch dry, grass surface very good.

A bright start from both teams. In the first few minutes Joe Hassall hit a volley over the bar from a Rathbone cross, and at the other end Reeve’s shot was punched clear by keeper Hathaway. The home side then poured on the pressure and forced a series of very accurate corners by the Dynamo number 11 Whymark. The first from a free kick headed out by Rathbone, the corner cleared by Edwards. The second headed goalwards by Reeve drew a save from keeper Hathaway and the third was headed over the bar by Brennan with Moulton contending.

After twelve minutes debutant Pegg, on loan from Coleville, found Leek in space with an accurate cross field pass but his shot went wide. The strong pressure by the home side continued , with the Shepshed players marking Coleshill very tightly and denying them time to be creative. Returning debutant Nadat received a series of passes but was denied opportunity to benefit by some very close marking by the home side central defenders. On seventeen minutes a shot from outside the penalty area by Hurst ricocheted to Read. His follow up shot from sixteen yards was blocked by Tymon, the ball span away for yet another corner which resulted in a foul and enabled the Colemen to clear up field.

In the second quarter Coleshill continued to work hard and gradually began to match their opponents. Another good pass by Pegg was picked up by Edwards, his shot blocked by Prenderville who conceded a corner that produced no advantage to the away side. Rathbone’s long range effort went wide and good work by Pegg, always keen to take responsibility, got Edwards in position but the ball was cleared for another Coleshill corner. Nadat continued to work hard to get clear , and eventually created the away side’s best opportunity of the half by getting the ball to Rathbone. His fine shot was well saved by keeper Antcliffe who pushed the ball onto the bar, it bounced onto the upright and then span away for a corner.

After half an hour a counter attack by Shepshed looked dangerous but Edwards and Moulton kept their nerve and forced Brennan to hurry his shot which was well clear of Hathaway’s right hand post. Leek then has an opportunity to score but the keeper made another good save. At the other end Edwards was forced into fouling Mcnaught but Whymark’s free kick from 35 yards hit the defensive wall. A second free kick from that distance (Tymon was booked for a tackle on 40 minutes) was also cleared without advantage. Just before the referee blew the whistle on an even first half contest, good interplay between Nadat and Edwards resulted in an Edwards shot that was turned away for a corner. A shot from Leek from the corner went just over the bar.
Half time Shepshed 0 Coleshill Town 0

In contrast to the start of the first half, the second half was dominated by Coleshill. Good interplay between Astley, Leek and Nadat allowed the striker to get his shot away but good defending by Preston enabled the home side to clear at the expense of a corner. At the other end a bad foul by Betts on keeper Hathaway as he was kicking the ball from hand cost the defender a yellow card. Coleshill responded with a counter attack resulting in a shot by Rathbone taken in the air by the keeper Antcliffe who looked solid the whole game. Nadat continued to cause havoc in the Dynamo defense and following one touch passes between Tymon, Rathbone and Edwards required frantic blocking by the home defence to deny the striker a come back goal. It was now the away side who forced a series of corners but Coleshill were unable to capitalise via shots from Leek & Nadat and headers by Halsall & Edwards.

On 65 minutes a fierce tackle on Rathbone eventually required a substitution and Drew Aiton took the field. Dynamo responded with a counter attack on the right hand side, this was foiled by Tymon. On 70 minutes Hathaways goal kick was controlled by Tymon who found the substitute in space on the right, and Aiton’s crossfield pass was collected smoothly by Nadat. His turn was too good for the defender and the Coleshill striker, returning after a spell at Hednesford, hit the ball cleanly on the volley at great speed from 8 yards. The keeper got his right hand to it but it was so fierce the ball went straight into the left hand corner of the net - a deserved lead for the away side

Shepshed 0 Coleshill Town 1

On 78 minutes Shepshed took off Mcnaught and Prenderville who were replaced by Harris and Troke respectively. Coleshill substituted Edwards for Molesworth on 80 minutes and goalscorer Nadat with Gardiner on 85 minutes .The game then opened up as Coleshill went into “defend the lead” mode. Harris hit a long range shot that was easily saved by the ever dependable Hathaway and a strong run by Leek ended with a shot that went wide of the right hand post. An excellent cross from the left wing by Brennan allowed Hurst a free header but the mid fielder squandered a real opportunity to equalise by heading over the bar. Coleshill’s efforts to keep the ball in the corner resulted in strong counter attacks and one of these forced Moulton to concede a corner but the home side could not make the opportunity count. The away side eventually got back control and Molesworth wound down the clock first with a long run down the right that resulted in a corner and then by earning a free kick in the last third.

Final score Shepshed 0 Coleshill Town 1

A good overall performance by the Colemen earning a well deserved three points away to a well drilled and hard tackling Shepshed side in an entertaining close encounter.
