MATCH REPORT

So, to exit from two cup competitions in just three days is disappointing BUT, no disgrace. The Colemen gave their all, matched their opponents for large chunks of both games and had enough chances to win both games.

As suspected, Stourbridge believed this was their best chance of silverware this season and played a virtual full strength team, 9 of their starting eleven last night played in a league game Saturday and as their league is TWO levels above Coleshill's, that's a strong team.
Coleshill on the other hand, with one eye on a Massive game this Saturday against Worcester, made 6 changes from the side that came so close in the Vase. Paul Hathaway, Jorna Moulton, Rob Evans, Luke Edwards, Ryan Wynter and Reece Leek were all rested and in came Dominic Cotter, Anton Astley, Joe Smith, Tom Fishwick, James Hicks and Joel Grandison. Under 21's stars Sam Ford, James Medford and Josh Bates made the bench.

Although Stourbridge had more possession and maybe edged the chances, the gulf between the sides was not obvious as Coleshill gave as good as they got. Dominic Cotter made a couple of fine saves and Joel Grandison and Tom Fishwick had headers that never really tested the keeper. But Coleshill took the lead on 39 minutes when a corner found Tom Fishwick at the far post. The defender lobbed the ball back into the danger area but as the keeper scrambled along his goal line the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Both keepers were in the action early in the second half making saves but the visitors levelled on 57 minutes when Broadhurst stabbed home from close range. Ryan Edmunds sent Joel Grandison free on goal but he shot over from 18 yards and that miss was costly as Stourbridge took the lead on 59 minutes with a fine solo effort from Gater shooting from the edge of the box. Town pulled level just a minute later with an excellent effort from Anton Astley as he curved the ball into the net with his rarely used right foot from 20 yards. A penalty shoot out looked the most likely outcome as neither side dominated but with time running out a long punt forward resulted in a mix-up between defender at keeper, the ball fell kindly for Antonio who swept the ball into an empty net from just inside the box. There was little time for Coleshill to hit back and so after going three months without defeat, they have lost two in a row.

Coleshill still have the Quarter Final of the League Cup to come but the Number One priority is the League and that challenge gets no bigger than the visit of title challengers Worcester City this Saturday.
