MATCH REPORT

ONE game to go and promotion is within touching distance!
Coleshill travelled to bottom of the table Rocester with one aim, three points!
Fair play to Rocester, they battled for the whole 90 minutes but they have only won four games all season and it showed, with a lack of quality in the final third, Town's defence was rarely in trouble.

For Coleshill, they understandably looked nervous, anxious and rushed their play in the first half. Matt Gardner back-heeled a Reece Leek shot but the effort was cleared off the line before the Colemen took the lead with just 8 minutes on the clock. Joe Smith got to the bye line and both Reece Leek and Matt Gardner where waiting at the far post for his inviting cross. Matt Gardner won the challenge and headed into the net. Reece Leek chased a lost cause and knocked the ball back to Liam Molesworth who crossed to the far post where Joe Smith headed downward but the ball bounced over the bar. Matt Gardner had the ball in the net but was in an offside position before Coleshill increased their lead on 34 minutes. A Joe Cole ball from defence set Matt Gardner away and his cross was met by Joe Halsall. His effort was cleared but only as for as Reece Leek who hit a sweet strike from the edge of the box low and hard into the corner of the net. Leek then sent Liam Molesworth into the box where he was virtually rugby tackled but the referee wasn't impressed.

The second half was much better and wave after wave of Coleshill attacks was rewarded with two more goals from Matthew Gardner. On 53 minutes a fine cross-field pass from Liam Molesworth found Joe Smith. Home keeper Wood made a hash of Smith's fine cross leaving Matt Gardner with a tap in. Rocester kept fighting and keeper Paul Hathaway had to punch clear a dangerous cross then tip a bouncing ball over the bar but it was the Coleman who were carving out the better chances and could easily have increased the score before Matt Gardner completed his hat-trick with just three minutes left on the clock. Coleshill broke quickly from their own box through Ryan Edmunds who found Matt Gardner in the box. He still had a lot to do but he cleverly lost the defender and shot under the diving keeper for number four. Rocester nearly got reward for all their hard work as they had the ball in the net in the dying seconds but the effort was disallowed for off side.

The Colemen travel to Ludlow on Saturday, 5th May, for their final game against Shawbury United who still have an outside chance of avoiding relegation. They have two games remaining and would have to win both.

Coleshill in reality need just one point to match the points total Highgate United can achieve and have a vastly superior Goal Difference. But a win is the aim which would secure promotion to Level 4 first the first time in the club's history.
