MATCH REPORT

Last game of the season and just one point needed to secure second place and promotion. One small thing standing in Coleshill's way, Shawbury United who, with a win and results going their way, could still avoid relegation.

Shawbury play at Ludlow, a lovely part of the country and a lovely ground courtesy of a Football Foundation Grant, and what a lovely day it was for the runners up decider, hot, hot, hot!

Despite only winning four games all season, Shawbury really made a fist of it and made it difficult for Coleshill. Chances were at a premium but Town should have had a penalty when the home keeper flapped at a cross then dove after the ball completely knocking Reece Leek off his feet, nothing given. Things got worse just before the half hour mark when a long throng was headed goalward by Askey and although Town keeper Paul Hathaway got a hand to it he couldn't keep it out. News also came through that Highgate were comfortably in front, Coleshill had to respond! They were level within four minutes. Ryan Edmunds made ground down the left then cut back to cross with his right and Joe Smith came in at the far post to head home. Shawbury still contested well, Paul Hathaway saved a fine strike and then a header, then watched a shot go just past the post.

Fair play to both teams as they continued to battle despite the strength sapping conditions. A Rob Evans cross shot hit the roof of the net. Reece Leek had the ball in the net but it w season disallowed for a previous off side. Coleshill thought they should have had another penalty as Matt Gardner was hauled to the ground trying to get to a Reece Leek cross but again nothing was given. Finally Coleshill managed to break a stubborn defence on 67 minutes. A cross from Ryan Edmunds was cleared from the six yard box but only to Joe Smith who shot hard and low into the net from 15 yards. Ryan Edmunds had a vicious cross beaten away by the home keeper and then knocked his way into the box but his shot went just wide of the far post as Coleshill stepped it up a gear. Shawbury still had their chances as a goalbound shot got deflected for a corner and Jorna Moulton cleared up a goalmouth scramble. Town keeper Paul Hathaway dove on a ball in the box and punched clear a dangerous cross as Coleshill held on for a record breaking season and promotion to Level 4.
