Finglas Fires In A Quick One-Two

Moor Green weathered early pressure and then hit Coleshill with two goals in two minutes from Finglas just before half time. This was despite losing goalkeeper Wootton early in the game with a leg injury. Moor Green returned to league action after a second cup success and were soon under pressure but a back pass to goalkeeper Wootton relieved the danger. A free kick for Moor Green taken by Hughes produced a corner but nothing else. Then Tolley for Coleshill was smart to pick up a back pass but was fouled by the visitor's goalkeeper and was injured in the process. He was taken off on a stretcher with a suspected chipped bone in his leg. Moor Green immediately went close when Braddock headed over the home goal in the 30th minute. Coleshill were losing their rhythm and the Moors were getting on top with first Braddock and then Holloway forced a brilliant save from Sammons in the home goal, at the expense of a corner. In the 40th minute Hawkins was pulled down and Finglas scored easily from the penalty spot. Two minutes later Finglas scored Moor Green's second from the edge of the box.
Half Time: Coleshill Town 0 v 2 Moor Green.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
The game got off to an unfortunate start following a collision between Tolley and Wootton in the visitors' goal. The home forward was taken to hospital with a damaged ankle. Holloway forced Sammons in the home goal to make a brilliant save from a good header in the 35th minute. The Moor's eventually went ahead from a penalty in the 40th minute when Finglas scored from the spot after Hawkins was pulled down. Finglas put the visitors two ahead a minute later. Coleshill had further mishaps in the second half when first Hevingham then Underhill limped off. Coleshill's nine men fought bravely but the inevitable happened when McDermott scored the Moor's third goal a minute from the end.

Canning Still Out

Coleshill Town will be without striker Barry Canning for Saturday’s visit of Moor Green. The striker is in the middle of a four week suspension for showing dissent at a referee. Boss Mel Strong said: “There is no way you should argue with the referee, he is only doing his job.” Town are still looking for their first win of the season and they have just one point from six games in their nightmare start. But manager Mel Strong said he could not criticise the effort of his players, who have given him 100 per cent.

CHELMSLEY NEWS ALSO WROTE
Coleshill Down To Nine Men

Coleshill finished this Midland Combination First Division game with only nine men, after injuries to Tolley, Hevingham and Underhill. Moor Green took full advantage and two goals from Finglas just before half time gave them the edge. It was Coleshill who applied the early pressure, but they failed to turn some smart approach work into goals. A free kick by Hughes for Moor Green was turned away for a corner but shortly afterwards Coleshill’s Tolley was stretchered off with a suspected chipped bone in his leg. This followed him picking up a poor back pass and colliding with the Moor Green keeper. In the 10th minute Braddock headed over the Coleshill bar. Moor Green started to take more control of the game and went close to scoring through Braddock and Finglas. Then in the 40th minute a penalty was awarded to Moor Green, when Hawkins was brought down. Finglas scored from the spot. Two minutes later Finglas netted his second goal from the edge of the box. Coleshill tried hard to get back in the running only to hit misfortune as both Hevingham and Underhill sustained injuries, which forced them out of the game. Moors coasted through proceedings and notched their third goal through McDermott a minute from the end.

Coleshill town’s manager Mel Strong was proud of his lads although they lost 3-0 to Moor Green. Strong said: “For the first 40 minutes we played exceptionally well, before conceding a penalty. Then in the second half and down to nine men we still showed great determination which must give us encouragement for the future. Coleshill Town are indebted to Coleshill Town Council for the donation of the match ball last Saturday and to Mayor Of Coleshill, Councillor Gordon Jones for making the presentation.
