SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
Bottom of the league without a win all season, and prior to this match they had only scored four goals in 10 games, that was Coleshill Town. Cradley must have wondered what had hit them, Coleshill not only hit form but they also hit six goals. Barrie Canning 2, Martin Colder 2, Blythe and Browning one apiece raised the confidence of Coleshill Town who can hope this is the start of a revival.

Town Hit Six In First Win

Shout it aloud!
Coleshill have won their first Midland Combination First Division game of the season – and they did it in great style, hammering home six goals. With only one point to show from nine previous outings Coleshill revelled in a fine team display to destroy Cradley and boost their sagging confidence. There was little to suggest an avalanche of goals in the first 20 minutes as both sides struggled to master midfield supremacy, but Coleshill gained the initiative with a well taken goal from Martin Colder. A long clearance by keeper Tony (Terry) Sammons was flicked on by John Edwards for Colder to score. The encouraging half time pep talk by manager Mel Strong gave Coleshill the impetus to dictate matters in the second half. After 55 minutes Barrie Canning shot them further in front and then substitute John Blythe, on for the injured Edwards, weaved his way through the home rear-guard to walk the ball round an advancing keeper and make it 3-0. Canning was upended by a now more than hesitant Cradley defence and he picked himself up to slot in a penalty. With Coleshill surging forward Colder took on three defender, before netting goal number five and Coleshill’s amazing spree was completed by Mark Browning. Near the end Cradley pulled a goal back, but this was Coleshill’s day and a happy Mr Strong said: “I am delighted. We did everything right and played the football. This win will do the lads a power of good.” This Saturday Coleshill take on high riding Paget Rangers at Pack Meadow, kick off 2.45 pm.
