SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Smethwick achieved manager Tony Willetts 20 point target by Chrismas with this win. Their opening goal came from Faulkner in the 16th minute and it was his first of the season. Coleshill then enjoyed a spell when they were well on top of the opposition and their equaliser in the 65th minute from Lamb came as no surprise. With ten minutes remaining for play Lysey pulled the game out of the fire and fooled Coleshill with a goal from nearly 30 yards when he fired on the turn with the Coleshill defenders expecting him to lay the ball off to his colleague Bromley.

CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Coleshill failed to get off the bottom of the Midland Combination First Division when going down to Smethwick, at Pack Meadow. Faulkner scored his first of the season to give Smethwick a 16th minute lead, but Coleshill hit back and enjoyed a period of domination. They were unlucky not to score on several occasions, before the 68th minute, when Lamb deservedly equalised. The result was wide open and both sides continued to have scoring chances. Smethwick grabbed the winner through Lysey, who cracked in a great 30 yard shot, with Coleshill's defenders expecting him to lay the ball off to his colleague Bromley.
