CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Coleshill Held By Chelmsley

Up against First Division side Coleshill, who had won three successive games, Chelmsley Town, without regular players Hemmings and Taylor, did well to earn a replay in the second round of the Midland Combination Challenge Cup. Chelmsley were slow to settle and Coleshill dominated but failed to accept scoring chances and Tipton should have given them the lead when he broke through the home rearguard but shot high and wide. Forbes and Brittle gradually began to get a grip on things in Chelmsley’s midfield and it was from a great through ball by Forbes that Mitchell went close to putting the Second Division club in front. Full back Campbell was left stranded by Mitchell’s speed and with keeper Hollins racing out to narrow the angle, the Chelmsley striker lobbed the ball over him, but it bounced agonisingly wide of the post. Chelmsley’s efforts were rewarded, however in the 41st minute. Mitchell again left Campbell in his wake and crossed the ball for Fielding to soar above central defender Hackett and power a header which Hollins could not hold and Fielding, following up, calmly tapped the ball home. Coleshill’s reply was immediate and effective. In the 43rd minute a centre from Woodward was not cleared and Jones crosses the ball back inside for Tipton to hook the ball over keeper Collins - the ball bouncing off the post into the net. Following the hectic pace of the first half the tempo slowed and proceedings developed into something of a midfield slog, and Coleshill brought on substitute Canning to bolster their attacks. Chelmsley defended in depth and deserved and deserved to get another bite at the cherry.
