SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
Moor green, under acting manager Horace Badham, soon pressed forward only to be caught in Coleshill’s offside trap. In Coleshill’s first attack Hughes was on hand to tidy up and pass back to Stokes. Smith tried to get the home attack going but was caught in possession. Whittaker’s speed down the wing was causing Coleshill problems and from one such run, Cotton was robbed by Hollins. Moors best the offside trap in the 17th minute only for Whittaker to blast over the bar. Cotton was unlucky in the 25th minute when his shot hit the bar and a minute later his header was saved on the goal line. Cotton hit a brilliant low ball across the goal just on half time and Smith just failed to connect. Seconds later Smith shot on the turn only to see it blocked on the goal line.
Half Time Moor Green 0 Coleshill 0
Within a minute of the re-start Whittaker headed a Smith corner inches wide. Almost at once Tipton split the home defence with a solo run, but his shot curled well wide.

SPORTS ARGUS ALSO WROTE
Coleshill Town brought down to earth when they visited The Moorlands and found Moor Green in top form. Horace Badham took control of the side after Harry Shepherd decided to move away. Moors however were out to prove themselves on the field and with goals from John Whitaker and Chris Cotton, they moved up to third place along with Coleshill Town.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Moor Green showed no sign of their backroom upheavals and played some sparkling football. In the first half Cotton for the Moors and Canning for Coleshill saw shots cannon off the crossbar. In the second half Tipton and Jones caused the home team some problems, but Moors were looking good with Hawkins and Howell going close. Whittaker missed a golden chance in the 68th minute but made amends seven minutes later when he crashed home a pass from Hawkins after a series of heart-stopping goalmouth incidents. One minute later Cotton forced a superb save from Hollins, but Moors were in total control and from Smith's measured cross Cotton's diving header was too good for the visiting keeper.

CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Coleshill Prove A Point

Although losing to champions Moor Green, Coleshill proved that their great improvement this season is no fluke. Exchanges were fairly even throughout and both teams produced plenty of skill and excitement. Tony Hanson, playing his last game for Coleshill before moving to Tamworth, went close to scoring in the 35th minute when he weaved his way past three defenders, but saw his powerful shot crash against the bar. Such was the force that Coleshill’s Tipton was unable to control the rebound and Moor Green survived. Near the interval Moors were also unlucky not to take the lead, Cotton’s shot beat keeper Hollins but struck the crossbar. The hectic pace continued in the second half with both Gary Jones and Bob Dyer wasting chances to put Coleshill in front and then a free kick from George Hackett was touched on to the post by Hanson. Moors took advantage of these let-offs and opened their account in the 70th minute through Whittaker with Coleshill players appealing vainly for off side. A minute later Hollins made a brilliant save from Cotton , but had no chance preventing Cotton netting Moors seconds goal as he headed home a cross by Smith.

THE CHELMSLEY NEWS ALSO WROTE
While Tony Hanson has been tempted away from Pack Meadow by Northern Premier League Club Tamworth , two players who have been sought after by other clubs are staying at Coleshill. They are Bob Dyer and Gary Kones. This week Coleshill’s manager Colin Holder said, “I am sorry that Tony Hanson has left us, but more than pleased that the other two players are staying. We have a great team spirit here and I am sure that we can more than consolidate our position in the Midland Combination.” Holder has signed centre half Steve Pollack from Oldbury United but has told both Mark Williams and Nigel Smith to look for other clubs. The two players failed to turn up to training and the Coleshill boss said, “If players cannot devote two hours a week for training then I am not interested in having them.”

SOLIHULL NEWS WROTE
On Form Moors Grab The Glory

Moor Green shrugged off their backroom problems to win a sparkling Midland Combination game at Sherwood Road against highly placed Coleshill Town on Saturday. It was a thrilling Division One clash and had the fans on the edge of their seats as play swung from end to end. Moors were soon pressing forward but were caught in the visitors offside trap. When Coleshill pushed forward they found Hughes in good form and he gave little away at the back. Graham Smith worked hard to get the home attack going and the speed of Whittaker on the wing caused Coleshill plenty of anxious moments. Coleshill nearly caused a shock in the 15th minute when a fierce free kick was too hot for Stokes to hold and the Moors' keeper could only push the ball over for a corner. This livened Moors up and within a minute Whittaker burst through the offside trap but blasted his shot over the bar. Cotton then broke on the right and a superb low cross just eluded the outstretched feet of Smith. Cotton was again in the thick of the action when he first hammered a shot against the crossbar and then had a powerful header blocked on the goal line. It was stirring stuff but Moor Green didn't have it all their own way as Coleshill counter-attacked and a snap shot from Hanson cannoned off the home bar with Stokes well beaten. Moors finished the first half strongly with some imaginative football leading to Smith having a shot on the turn which was charged down in the goal-mouth. Moor Green were beginning to wear down their opponents and Hawkins had tough luck with a cracking 30 yard drive before Cotton headed on for Howell to head just inches wide. Moors had the best chance so far when Howell split the Coleshill defence with a fine through ball but Whittaker, with the goal at his mercy, shot high over the bar in the 65th minute. Whittaker however, made amends 10 minutes later when he hammered home a hard drive after skipper Hawkins had played a fine ball into a crowded goalmouth. Cotton nearly made it 2-0 a minute later but his superb shot was saved by keeper Hollins. But Moors were not to be denied and made the game safe with five minutes remaining. Graham Smith sent a perfectly measured ball into the goalmouth for Cotton to score with a diving header - a perfect climax to a satisfying game that sent the Moors fans home happy.
