SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Both sides played attacking football in the strong windy conditions. Coleshill should have taken the lead through a fierce drive by Jones. Coleshill dominated the early play in the second half and Dyer went close with a header which was well saved. Coleshill took the lead in the 65th minute with a fine opportunist goal by Barry Canning. In the 85th minute Solihull were given a free kick 45 yards out. Burnett hit a fierce drive which Hollins dropped over the line at the second attempt.

Coleshill Drop Home Point
After losing 2-0 to Moor Green the previous week Coleshill were hoping to get back to winning ways, but in a wind swept encounter at Pack Meadow they were held to a draw by Solihull Borough. Coleshill went close to taking an early lead when a fierce drive from Gary Jones was expertly saved by Borough keeper Reaney. The high winds prevented good football, but proceedings were always lively and in the 37th minute a combined Coleshill move ended with Kevin Tipton heading against the crossbar. Coleshill dominated play in the opening stages of the second half. Dyer saw a fine header saved by Reaney and he then skimmed the bar with a powerful 35 yard drive. In the 65th minute, skipper George Hackett created space for Brad Russell, who had been brought on for the injured Dominic Mooney, to push a through ball to Barrie Canning and the young striker burst forward to net a great goal. Jones almost put Coleshill further ahead with a 20 yard shot, but the ball was tipped over by Reaney. With only four minutes to go John Gardner gave away a free kick some 40 yards out of the Coleshill goal and Solihull’s Burnett hit a tremendous shot, which home keeper Mark Hollins held, but then dropped the ball, spun over the line, enabling Borough to salvage a point. Coleshill’s manager Colin Holder said, “ Conditions were bad with the wind creating problems, but this was a disappointing end and I am not satisfied with the team’s overall performance. We are not showing the required consistency and I am afraid some of the players are hiding from their responsibilities. I will definitely not hesitate to make changes.” Two newcomers who could make a challenge for first team places are Steve Pollack from Oldbury and Ian Wilson from Tamworth. Both lack match practice at the moment, but they did well in Coleshill Reserves 0-0 draw at Enville. Coleshill have also served seven days notice on Bolehall Swifts for giant utility player Barry Tempest. This Saturday Coleshill Town visit Stratford Town and on Tuesday evening Coleshill travel to Alliance League club A.P. Leamington in the first round of the Birmingham Senior Cup. The kick off is at 7.30pm and a coach will leave Pack Meadow at 5.30pm. Supporters are advised to book seats with club officials.

Borough Bounce Back To Draw
Solihull Borough made a welcome return to form with a sound display against Midland Combination pace-setters Coleshill Town on Saturday. Both sides played attacking football from the start and Borough had an early chance when a long Burnett throw ended with Hemens heading inches over the bar. Hill gained a corner for the visitors from which he fired over when well placed and Pinner cleverly halted a Coleshill attack as play swung from end to end. A well taken free kick from Hemens found Burnett but the header again went fractionally over the bar before Coleshill stormed back to apply the pressure. Knight and Pinner both held firm in the Borough defence and with five minutes of the first half remaining, an injury to Tipton brought on substitute Russell for the home side. With a strong wind in their favour it seemed that Borough might well dominate the second half but this was not to be and it was Coleshill who took the early initiative. The home team fired a free kick wide of the target and at the other end a Joey Burnett header skimmed the bar. Good defence by both sides kept both sides' chances to a minimum. Chris Bell broke quickly but was brought down and the culprit's name went into the referee's book. Just as a draw seemed inevitable some slack defensive play by Borough let in Town for a goal. Russell found himself clear and made no mistake with a crisp shot to give Coleshill a shock lead. Borough replied with a sharp attack and were awarded a free kick some 40 yards out. Burnett struck a fine shot and although the Coleshill keeper anticipated well, he was unable to hold the ball and Borough were back on level terms with only five minutes left. Considering the strong wind and the driving rain after the interval, the game was a credit to both teams but the Borough midfield must keep a better grip throughout if there is to be any joy from this afternoon's local derby against high riding Knowle at Widney Lane.
