SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
Coleshill put on some early pressure and were unlucky when a bad mistake by Braich gave the ball to Burrows who saw his shot go inches wide of the post. A great through ball from Bishop gave Tipton the first goal of the match when he fought off two defenders to score. A good ball from Cartwright saw Burrows shot go past the far post. From a free kick Stratford Town equalised through Ballenger against the run of play. A fierce shot by Jones was pushed over the bar by Spencer. Coleshill continued to pressurise the visitors defence, but could not capitalise on their chances.

The Sports Argus later wrote:
Keith Shrimpton made his debut for Coleshill Town. He had to wait for 65 minutes before he got on the field, but at the same time he saw his side go 2-1 down after Coleshill had taken an early lead. Stratford hit back with goals coming from Ballinger and O'Connell.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
A great through ball from Bishop gave Coleshill's Tipton the first goal of the match when he beat off two defenders to score. From a free kick Stratford equalised through Ballinger against the run of play. O'Connell got the winner for Stratford in the 65th minute.

CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Action Again But Coleshill Out Of Touch

In their first game for six weeks Coleshill slumped to a disappointing Midland Combination First Division defeat and the overall performance was a big let-down for manager Colin Holder who said, "Some players did not give one hundred per cent and some were hiding." Coleshill began well enough with Jones and Burrows both going close to scoring, before a fine through ball from sweeper Mark Bishop found Kevin Tipton who weaved his way round two despairing tackles before cracking home a great goal. Another smart move - this time created by Cartwright - paved an opening for Burrows, but he shot wide. Stratford defended in depth and suddenly hit back to level matters. Steve Pollack gave away a free kick just outside the penalty area and while Coleshill's wall was still being finalised Montgomery slipped the ball across the home goal and challenged by Ballinger, Coleshill's Ron Cartwright unluckily deflected the ball into his own net. Coleshill still had enough chances before the interval to have regained the lead but they lacked bite and Stratford easily contained attacks. During the second half Coleshill failed to match the strong running and aggression of the Avonsiders, who deservedly jumped in front with a goal from O'Connell in the 65th minute. Five minutes later Coleshill should have been back on level terms when a splendid pass from Bob Dyer found Tipton, who raced past three defenders and teed the ball up for Nigel Burrows, but from three yards out the ball was ballooned over the crossbar. Stratford's strong defence was not unduly troubled from then on and with Coleshill fading badly the visitors ran out comfortable winners. Coleshill slipped from third to fourth place because of this defeat and manager Colin Holder is demanding a much better effort from his players when they visit Evesham this Saturday.

STRATFORD UPON AVON HERALD WROTE
Stratford Complete Double Over Coleshill With 2-1 Away Win

This was an excellent away win for Stratford Town against Coleshill Town who are fourth in the division. This result also completed a double for Stratford and was gained from a gritty performance in which every player gave 100% effort. Stratford started very competitively and were soon putting together some useful attacks which were led for the first time by recent signing Steve Montgomery from AP Leamington. After 20 minutes Town were caught cold by a long through ball from which Bishop ran on and gave Spencer little chance with a right foot shot. Coleshill came strongly into the game following this goal and Stratford's defence was put to the test as Coleshill searched for a second breakthrough. Spencer made a fine save from a Bishop cross/shot and Graham Ulyatt and Montgomery were continually involved in the heart of Stratford's defence. Stratford weathered the storm and after 35 minutes equalised. Braich, O'Connell and Clarke were involved in a cross field move before the ball was fed to Hancocks on the left. As he attempted to go forward he was brought down about five yards outside the penalty area. A short free kick was played to Paul Ballinger who run wide of Coleshill's defensive wall before firing in a left foot shot which took a deflection to beat Coleshill's goalkeeper at the near post. This equaliser steadied Town and they again started to play some good football. Taylor and Ballinger linked well on the left but unfortunately the opportunity was lost with a poor cross. Steve Montgomery almost opened his account but just failed to reach a cross by Grantham. At half time the score was 1-1 and Town were well satisfied by their first half performance. The second half commenced with most of the game being fought in midfield. Coleshill appeared to increase their rate in the early stages and Stratford had to be on their toes to keep them at bay. Town relied on quick counter-attacks and after 65 minutes they scored what proved to be the winner. Stratford won a free kick on the left hand side of the pitch a few yards from the penalty area. Coleshill appeared to line up expecting a cross to be aimed for Ulyatt or Montgomery at the far post. Marton O'Connell however had different ideas and hit a fierce shot at the near post and despite Coleshill's goalkeeper getting a hand to the ball he could do little but help it into the corner of the net. Stratford were now in command but Coleshill rallied towards the end and Town had to survive a nail biting final ten minutes which were probably easier to play than to watch.
