THE SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
The game kicked off at a cracking pace with both sides having difficulty in the strong windy conditions. The first half was evenly fought with both teams going close. Coleshill had the first clear cut chance of the game when Tony Hanson, on his return to Coleshill from Tamworth, took the ball from his own half beating three defenders only to see his shot scrape the crossbar. For the visitors a corner by Whitehouse was headed just over the bar.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill had the first clear cut chance when Hanson, on his return from Tamworth, took the ball from his own half, beating three defenders, only to see his shot scrape the crossbar. In the 50th minute, a corner by Whitehouse was headed home by McColgan to give United the winner.

THE CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Brave Display By Depleted Coleshill

Injuries and illnesses severely handicapped Coleshill on Saturday and they tumbled to their third successive Midland Combination Division One Defeat. Manager Colin Holder must have despaired as six players, Bob Dyer (suspected fractured skull), Gary Jones (torn ligament), Barry Tempest (cut leg), Brad Russell (chicken pox), Barrie Caning (twisted ankle), and Nigel Burrows (flu) were all forced to cry off. On the credit side Coleshill welcomed back their former striker Tony Hanson from Tamworth, but the wholesale changes proved decisive. Even so, Coleshill probably played better than in their two previous outings. Holder was full of praise for the team effort and said "It was a lot to ask for the team to settle down and get the better of an experienced Oldbury side, but I was pleased with the determination shown." Coleshill enjoyed an attacking role in the opening stages and a combined move between Turner and Gardner sent Hanson on a 30 yard run and his shot went narrowly wide. Both sides attempted to play attractive football on an uneven, bumpy pitch and Coleshill went close to taking the lead near half time when they gained three successive corners. Woodward and Tipton set up another smart Coleshill attack at the start of the second half, but Micky Calvert saw a fine effort saved by Oldbury keeper McLaren. From the resultant corner by Tipton the ball was headed onto the crossbar by Pollack and Hanson slammed in the rebound only to see the ball blocked by Hodgson on the line. Oldbury, whose attacks had been well contained by Coleshill, snatched the lead from a Whitehouse corner - poor marking by Woodward allowing McColgan to head past Hollins. This Saturday Coleshill have a tough away match against title chasers Chipping Norton.
