THIS WEEK 2012/13 - No27

25 Years ago, 1987/88

Saturday 30th January 1988
Midland Combination
Coleshill Town 2 v 1 Leamington
Scorers: Derek Christopher, John Taylor.
Sunday Mercury Wrote:
Coleshill Town recorded a deserved victory against Leamington with goals from the dangerous twin strike force of Derek Christopher and John Taylor. Coleshill should have taken an early lead when the unmarked Wayne Scally shot over the bar. Leamington also went close when a Dan Myton corner was headed just wide by Billy Jawandha. Coleshill took the lead in the 44minute following a Steve Whipps cross which was headed against the bar by Neil Hughes and Taylor prodded home the rebound from close range. On the hour, Coleshill were awarded a penalty but Christopher saw his twice taken kick well saved by Leamington keeper Maurice Harnell. Within four minutes Christopher made amends when, after linking with Taylor, he slotted home from six yards. Leamington pulled a consolation goal back in the last minute. Debutante sub Colin Vale centred for new signing Norman Dougherty to score with a 12 yard shot.

50 Years Ago 1962/63

Saturday 2nd February 1963
Birmingham Youth & Old Boys League, Mercian Division
A period of seriously bad weather set in. Firstly snow, then frost and finally waterlogged pitches meant a period of 12 weeks past, from the 22nd December, before Coleshill played again. The papers wrote that this was the worst winter in 200 years.
