SOLIHULL NEWS WROTE
Boro Bag Easy Victory

John Muir had a goal disallowed on 42 minutes and eventually netted on the stroke of half time, turning well to score from Mulders' pass. Solihull increased their lead in the third minute of the second half when Coppin provided the finish after a good run by Devery. Coleshill hit back and Houghton saved to deny Carmichael on 50 minutes. Dowling thumped home No3 on 57 minutes after a good run and pass by Muir. Devery should have scored on 62 minutes, then Palgrave shook the crossbar with a fierce drive. Coleshill scored a late consolation goal as Setaro netted from the spot after Martin was adjudged to have fouled.

SOLIHULL TIMES WROTE
Borough Open In Style

Solihull began their defence of the Birmingham Senior Cup that they won last May beating Aston Villa and Villa Park with a comfortable victory over Endsleigh Midland Combination side. Boro pressed from the start and it was 11 minutes before Coleshill had their first attack. Coppin went close firing a shot across the face of goal before Muir beat keeper Manual to the ball only for Wardle to clear the danger for Coleshill. Simms fired in a low shot that was well saved and then on the half hour Carmichael came closest so far for a Coleshill side that had come well into the game firing a free kick just wide. Cook sent Coppin clear with a lovely through ball and in Boro's best move so far on 38 minutes Palgrave released Dowling with an excellent pass and Kurila fired over from the cross. John Muir then had a goal disallowed and forced Manuel to tip over a close range effort before eventually netting on the stroke of half time, turning well in the area to score from Mulders' pass. Solihull extended their lead in the third minute of the second half with Matt Coppin finishing after a good run by Brendan Devery. Coleshill hit back and Houghton had to save to deny Carmichael before Simms broke clear but his attempted chip was caught by the keeper. Joe Dowling thumped home number three on 57 minutes after a good run and intelligent pass from Muir. Solihull now sent on their substitutes to gain match experience and Devery should have added a fourth and Palgrave then shook the crossbar with a fierce drive. Coleshill grabbed a consolation two minutes from the end, Setaro scoring from the spot after young Ricky Martin was adjudged to have fouled.

*Darryl Houghton played for Coleshill previously and Ricky Martin played for Town several years later.
