Coleshill refocus on league after defeat

COLESHILL Town may be out of the FA Cup but chairman Paul Billing remains happy with the club's start to the campaign.

The Colemen slipped out of the cup at Stourport Swifts last weekend but are sitting pretty in the top six in the Midland Combination Premier with nine points from their opening four games.

And Billing is hoping the Colemen can sustain that league form as they prepare for a Bank Holiday double-header.

Coleshill host Westfields on Saturday before travelling to Boldmere St Michaels on Monday.

"I'm looking forward to the weekend," Billing said. "After the season we had last year, having nine points on board already is fantastic.

"We are happy with that and hopefully we can build on that league form.

"It's a tricky weekend in terms of the games but it's a funny time of the season to be honest.

"In the opening weeks, you just don't really know what to expect from the opposition.

"They might not have found their groove or they may have players missing through holidays.

"I think you have to wait until October and November time for things to really settle down.

"I'm just happy that we have started well and we are playing some attractive, attacking football.

"I think we are worth watching at the moment, I really do."

Coleshill's FA Cup dreams were ended with a 3-1 defeat at Stourport but Billing was not too disheartened.

"Of course, a run would have been great," he said. "We looked comfortable early on and took the lead.

"But they got a penalty before half time and it knocked the stuffing out of us.

"We didn't do ourselves justice in the second half, which is a shame, because it was a fantastic opportunity to get through.

"But it was a great day out and we will just refocus on the league and other cup competitions now."
