CASTLE BROMWICH NEWS WROTE
Town Fight Back

Coleshill Town staged a strong second-half revival to throw Paget out of their stride and claim an unexpected but deserved success at the Memorial Park on Monday. Well served by Trevor Quiggin and George Clamp in midfield, and the liveliest player on the field, winger Mike Taylor, Paget dominated the first half. Rangers lacked finish, with Bernard Wright subdued by Coleshill’s defender Les Owen. But it was the visitors who took the lead on 26 minutes, when Clamp scored from the penalty spot after Geoff Statham and handled a cross by Johnny Allen. After the interval, Town introduced substitute Oscar Deeming, in place of midfield man Scott Coleman, veteran Deeming enlivened Coleshill, helped by the hard work and ability of Roy Phelps. It was Phelps who paved the way for Town’s first goal, in the 55th minute. His high cross was misjudged by goalkeeper Tony Sawyer, the ball rebounding off the crossbar to Eddie Hanlon, who scored at the second attempt. After 60 minutes Paget brought on Keith Froggatt, in place of injured full back Geoff Townsend but Coleshill continued their fight back and the winner came 19 minutes from time. Phelps expertly heading home Hanlon’s free kick.
