WE MEET AGAIN – COVENTRY SPHINX


Coventry Sphinx joined Coleshill in the Midland Combination Premier Division from the Coventry Alliance for the 1995/96 season and the two teams have being doing battle pretty much every season since. The exceptions being 2000/01 when Coleshill had a season in Division 1, and 2007/08 when Sphinx stepped up to the Alliance a year ahead of Coleshill. Sphinx are a club I’ve always admired, they seem to get the off the field things right. They have a lovely club house, the pitch is always in great nick, they have loads of helpers on match day, and they have a great programme and web site. They do have the advantage of being the senior Non-League side in Coventry so they have the pick of the talent from a very large catchment area and because of that they have generally done really well in the Alliance. Coleshill’s record against Sphinx isn’t too good as the All Time Record shows. Sphinx have done the double over Town six times whereas Town have only ever done the double over Sphinx once, in 2009/10. This season both sides are having a great season! Currently Coleshill lie in 5th place with 37 points from their 21 games and Sphinx are just one place below, just 3 points behind but with two games in hand!
