A hat-trick from Brain enabled Evesham to record the double over Coleshill and retained their top position. Evesham took the lead after 21 minutes when Candy advanced on goal to score. Evesham went further in front 10 minutes later when Brain was put clear. In the 44th minute, Oswald set up Candy to score for Evesham from close range and within a minute the visitors added a fourth when Brain beat the Coleshill keeper from just inside the penalty area. Coleshill reduced the deficit after 70 minutes when Chambers handled the ball in the penalty box and Brady scored but with 12 minutes remaining Brain completed his hat-trick when he swept home a left wing cross from Kirnon.

This third round Queens Hospital Cupgame was a most bewildering affair and one had to be present to believe that after 60 minutes play Coleshill Town were leading near neighbours Coleshill Hall Reserves by five clear goals – but when the final whistle sounded they were fortunate to be holding on to a re-play. The Town were complete masters of a first half that supplied them four goals. Centre forward Gordon Moseley 2, Beavon and Checkley were the men on target. Passage into the Semi-Final appeared certain when Moseley completed his hat-trick with the Town’s total of five looking as safe as the Bank Of England. Coleshill Hall, who up to this point were being written off, rolled uptheir sleeves and completely upset the home defence, goals arriving in quick succession from Bloxham, D. Phillips and I Sherlock. With only five minutes remaining the Town still held a narrow 5-4 lead but the Hall, sensing that a replay was still possible, made it a reality when Sherlock crashed home a fine goal. The Town’s defence was now as shaky as a jelly and the Hall, with the goal at their mercy, missed what could have been the winner. Clayton and Sherlock were mainly back from the depths of defeat and if they can produce the same “tonic” in the replay, victory should be claimed.

These teams met on Saturday 7th February to decide who should play in the final. Both sides were at full strength and a good game was promised. It will be remembered that Sutton defeated Coleshill three years ago in the competition by the score of 5-1. Winning the toss, the visitors took advantage of a strong wind by kicking towards the town goal. The first few minutes presented plenty of thrills, for both goals had some narrow escapes. Sutton began to force matters and went up the field in a line but a foal was given against one of them, Nicholls relieving the pressure with a big kick. This started the “Rabbits” and they commenced a hot bombardment of the Sutton goal. In attempting to save a shot the Sutton custodian conceded a corner. This was well taken by Jeffs and after bobbing about the goalmouth for some minutes the ball came to Clive who scored with a hard, low drive from fully 25 yards range, sixteen minutes from the commencement. Coleshill, who were now playing a great game, were not to be denied and three minutes later Bullock scored from a corner. Shortly afterwards the visitors reduced the lead, Clive accidently heading through his own goal from a long shot. Dyke made amends by increasing the lead by a brilliant solo effort. The “Greens” continued to have most of the play and immediately before half time Rudge scored a fine goal.

Restarting Coleshill at once made tracks for goal, and five minutes after the resumption Rudge put them further ahead. Shortly afterwards however Sutton scored two goals in quick succession. This sudden reverse put fresh life into the Coleshill Attack and once again they forced the game at a terrific pace. During one onslaught the Coleshill captain, Clare, obtained possession and with a terrific drive scored the sixth goal, much to the delight of the Coleshill supporters. The custodian managed to get to the ball, but after it had crossed the line, Dyke, who was well up, bundled ball and goalkeeper into the back of the net. The “Greens” continued to force matters but Sutton managed to break away and Smith in attempting to stop them brought the centre forward down in the penalty area. In response to the appeal, the referee awarded the kick. Sutton made no mistake and placed the ball well out of Franklin’s reach. Coleshill made amends for they again went to the attack and Greaves scored the seventh and final goal three minutes from time.
Result Coleshill Town 7 Sutton Town 4.

There can be no doubt Sutton were an utterly routed team and on this form Coleshill will hold their own against any team of the district.
Coleshill Team: Franklin goal, Nicholls and Jones backs, Smith, Clare and Clive half backs, Jeffs, Rudge, Dyke, Greaves and Bullock forwards.

The other Semi Final is between Baddesley Colliery and Kingsbury Colliery.
