Coleshill warm up for Quorn by winning battle of Dunkirk

Writes the Coleshill Herald

COLESHILL Town warmed up for their home clash with top-of-the-table Quorn this weekend by claiming a 4-0 win over Dunkirk on Tuesday night, writes Matthew Panter.

First-half goals from Matt Brown and Ryan Nash put them in the driving seat before strikes from Chris Lloyd and Chris Gumery sealed the points.

Coleshill chairman Paul Billing said: "We were really rusty in the first 15-20 minutes to be fair and Dunkirk put us under a lot of pressure.

"They were more lively than us but we took our chances.

"We managed to get the two goals through Matty and a great free-kick from Ryan.

"In the second half, it was all one way and we put in a strong performance. We got stronger and stronger as the game went on and we have to be happy with that result.

"It's been a tough few weeks with a lot of postponements.

"We have managed to get a few friendlies in on the astro-turf but, in all honesty, people do just go through the motions in those kind of games.

"You can't beat proper, competitive football so it was nice to get back on the pitch on Tuesday night."

Victory over Dunkirk means Coleshill are seventh in the table ahead of their home clash with leaders Quorn.

Billing said: "Quorn are the best side that we have played this season. We lost 2-1 at their place but we led in that game and gave it a really good go before they came back.

"Personally, I think it's between Quorn and Tividale for the league title but third and fourth spot are up for grabs and we have as good a chance as anyone of achieving that. We will go into the game on Saturday with confidence because, on our day, we are capable of beating anyone.

"Hopefully we will have a decent crowd at the weekend as well and we can pick up a positive result."
