Casey's pride as his stars take Birmingham City all the way in cup
Writes the Coleshill Herald
COLESHILL Town boss Paul Casey described his side's cup match-up against a talented Birmingham City side on Tuesday as the 'highlight' of his managerial career.
Casey's men suffered heartbreak in the semi-finals of the Birmingham Senior Cup as they slipped to a sudden death penalty shoot-out defeat against the Blues.
More than 300 fans watched the tie and despite the disappointment of defeat, Casey was extremely proud.
"It was really heartbreaking to lose the way we did," he said.
"But, at the same time, it was also memory building beyond belief.
"We were up against a very talented Birmingham City team, who played the game with incredible pace.
"They had players in their side with Football League and Conference Premier division experience but we have taken them all the way, through 120 minutes and a penalty shoot-out – a sudden death one at that.
"And we actually got stronger as the game went on and could have won it in extra time.
"We couldn't match them in terms of technique may be but we certainly made up for it in terms of our attitude and team spirit.
"The players were quite simply a credit to Coleshill Town FC and, for me, it was probably the highlight of my managerial career so far."
Casey must now shift his focus to the Midland League Premier title chase with Coleshill currently second in the table, three points behind league leaders Basford.
Coleshill entertain AFC Wulfrunians this Saturday and Casey said: "They have been in a good run of form as well of late so it will be tough for us.
"But hopefully we can pick up a good result.
"We will have some tired legs after the game against the Blues but we will freshen things up with some of the other lads in the squad.
"We have got a lot of options here right now and it's a good position for me to be in."
Rickie Cutting, Deqwon Ebanks and Mykel Beckley all missed the clash with Blues but could return this weekend.
