COLESHILL TOWN 1 v 1 ALVESTON
Scorer: Craig Davies pen.
Coleshill’s managers Pete Wilson and Mick Beadle have been hoping to see Craig and Chris Davies play together for a couple of weeks now, and the pair finally came together to play struggling Alveston. Unfortunately the expected fireworks didn’t happen on a night when Coleshill failed to find any rhythm, and Alveston fought doggedly, refusing to be beaten and defying their lowly position.
The drizzle made the conditions difficult and players found it difficult to keep on their feet. Both teams looked solid in defence but lacking ideas in the final third. Coleshill started brightly and had several chances in the opening minutes but Alveston held on and slowly started to gain confidence and come more into the game. With the majority of possession Coleshill were disappointed to go in at half time level but neither keeper was seriously tested. Coleshill finally took the lead when Chris Davies wriggled free in the box and was brought down for an undisputed penalty. Craig Davies stepped up and firmly planted the ball in the top right corner. Town now had the upper hand and should have gone on to win the game but they couldn’t step up a gear and Alveston dug in to frustrate Town and eventually got the reward their hard work deserved. Alveston pinned Coleshill deep in their half with a sustained attack but the danger seemed over as Town cleared their lines. The ball fell to an Alveston midfielder who tried his luck from distance. Craig Jones in the Coleshill goal could only look on as the speculative lob sailed over his head and landed in the back of the net. Coleshill huffed and puffed but Alveston comfortably played out time in a disappointing draw.
