Pre-Season a success.

SUTTON CLEAN SWEEP

Saturday 31st July
Coleshill Town 3-0 Sutton Coldfield Town
Robinson 12, 29
Porter 20

Coleshill Town showed style, substance and swagger in equal quantities to see off Evo-Stick Northern League opposition Sutton Coldfield Town. Matty Robinson and Ben Porter grabbed the goals as the visitors were tore apart despite being in the league above Coleshill Town.
A magnificent first half performance from the Colemen saw the three goal cushion built up before the interval, as the hosts posed great danger to their opponents, proving that they are ready to tackle competitive league games. It took just 12 minutes for Matty Robinson to open the scoring, the veteran striker meeting a beautifully crafted through ball from the ever-impressive Danny Carter to dispatch the ball into the bottom corner.
If the opening goal seemed composed, Ben Porter took the term to a whole new level when putting his own stamp onto the game. The goal was both industrious and luxurious, as Porter started the move by winning the ball 40 yards from goal with a trademark tackle. The midfield ace proceeded to skip past five defenders, carrying the ball into the box before slotting home to complete the Maradona-esque move.
A third was almost added when a Warren Miller cross found Robinson at the far post, but the end product was smashed into the side netting. The centre-forward was unlucky with another opportunity when he looped a difficult effort over the bar from Carter’s fizzing cross.
The third and ultimately final goal of the game exhibited Matty Robinson’s poacher’s instinct that Coleshill will surely benefit from in the coming season. Jon Powis’ cross wasn’t dealt with by an opposing defender as Robinson capitalised on the fresh air kick with great awareness, guiding the ball over the late-to-react goalkeeper to find the corner of the net once again.
As an unassailable lead had already been built up, the second half was a much quieter affair, with few chances of note. Dean Baker headed a ball into the side netting, with Miller going one closer, a menacing near post drive palmed away by the ‘keeper with some difficulty.
