Shot-Shy Robins Fail To Register
It is a measure of the Robins’ dip in fortunes this year that they were beaten by their local rivals and were unable to create a goal scoring opportunity throughout the game. Knowle pressed forward from the kick-off and had appeals for a penalty for hand ball turned aside. Two high punts forward were not cut out by the Robins, leaving Pat Daley clear to round Dave Cox and stab the ball into an empty net. After 15 minutes a Coleshill attacker clearly pushed Knowle defender Dave Roberts into his keeper and the ball ran loose to Pat Daley who accepted his second gift to increase the lead. Dave Cox injured his arm in the incident and was unable to take to the field for the second half. He was replaced in goal by Mark Robinson, with substitute Carl Bannister making his debut in defence. The Robins continued to push forward but failed to trouble Paul Batchelor in the visitors’ goal. Knowle’s best opportunity came after 55 minutes when a fine move split the Coleshill defence, only to see Andy Williams miss-hit his shot wide with only the keeper to beat. A poor goal kick five minutes later landed at the feet of Des Seivwright who completed the scoring for Coleshill.
