SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Two goals from Gio Dainty helped second placed Coleshill Town to a 5-2 win at home to Walsall Wood - Dean Rathbone, Reece Leek and Mykel Beckley with the others.
Coleshill keep winning but title favourites Alvechurch just don't look like slipping up. Church also won yesterday so the gap remains at nine points although the Colemen have a game in hand and Alvechurch still have to come to Pack Meadow on Saturday 15th April, what a big game that will be!
On a better note, the chasing teams all dropped points. 3rd placed Lye lost at Stourport, 4th placed Sporting Khalsa drew with Coventry United and 5th placed Westfields, who visit Pack Meadow on Tuesday night, lost at home to Rocester. This all means, even accounting for games in hand, Coleshill have a clear five point safety margin. It is all going to get very interesting as we go into the last month of the season.
Coleshill ran out 5-2 winners on a lovely sunny day in front of a healthy crowd of 152. Wood had the first chance of the game when Aiton brought a smart save out of home keeper Paul Hathaway but Coleshill took the lead on 11 minutes when a Dean Rathbone deflected shot looped over the keeper. The visitors keeper Jenkins saved a shot by Simeon Cobourne with his feet, then the stopper did even better as he pushed a Dean Rathbone effort onto the post, the ball then ran along the goal line before going out for a corner. Jenkins saved again from Rathbone before Man Of The Match Giovanni Dainty made it 2-0 on 41 minutes. Dean Rathbone played in Dainty right of the box who cut inside onto his favoured left foot and shot into the far corner of the net.
Walsall started the second half the more lively of the two teams, Molesworth hit the post, Andre Gonzales blocked a goalbound effort by the same player and Adams's deflected shot went for a corner but on the hour mark Coleshill made it three. Tom Weale's looping ball found Simeon Cobourne wide right and he beat his man before crossing into the six yard box where Gio Dainty was lurking to bundle the ball over the line. Jenkins saved from substitute Reece Leek before Wood pulled a goal back on 70 minutes. A ball into the box reached Butlin with his back to goal but the player cleverly turned and shot in one motion beating the dive of Paul Hathaway. Coleshill quickly restored the three goal lead when Tom Fishwick sent Simeon Cobourne clear down the left flank. The striker moved the ball onto Mykel Beckley who raced into the box before passing to Reece Leek who beat his man before picking his spot with a cracking shot. Jenkins saved from Mykel Beckley but on 77 minutes Beckley made the most of a pass from Curvin Ellis to bend the ball around the keeper and into the far corner of the net. 5-1. Reece Leek won a free kick ten yards from the penalty spot and Taylor Boyce inexplicably kicked the ball at the referee in complete frustration and off he went! With seven minutes remaining Butlin's shot was blocked but the loose ball fell nicely for Mansell who hammered the ball into the net from 20 yards leaving Paul Hathaway with no chance. Gio Dainty almost completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes but his powerful left foot shot was tipped over the bar with yet another fine save from the impressive Jenkins.
